FOOTBALL RECRUITING
OL TARGET MOVEMENT:
- As his Rivals profile suggests, Williams committed to Utah earlier this week. The fact that he's staying out west doesn't come as a big surprise and it's something we mentioned in the Chamber a couple of weeks ago.
- Both Williams and Pounders appear to be Missouri's top offensive line targets for now. Williams picked up his second SEC offer from Ole Miss a couple of weeks, so his recruiting stock is continuing to pick up. Pounders is a guy that current offensive line coach Marcus Johnson is likely familiar with from his time in Starkville. The Bulldogs are fighting to keep his commitment, but Ole Miss seems to be pressing hard and now the Tigers have entered the mix.
TRENDING UP:
- On Wednesday night, a tweet from current DL commitment Kyran Montgomery suggested there was a new commitment which caused a bit of a stir. Turns out that George, who Mizzou offered over last week, was on a weekly Zoom call with the coaches and other commitments and all signs suggest he's already in the class but will wait until December 1st to make his announcement. The former Miami Hurricane and JUCO product also had a virtual visit with the coaching staff along with his parents on Thursday. He intends to be an early enrollee. For more on George and his journey, read our story on him from Thursday.
DL OUTLOOK:
- If George does end up revealing his decision that he's coming to Columbia next month, that would give Missouri seven defensive line commitments in the 2021 class. Do they take an eighth? It's looking very likely. Among the high school ranks, Arden Walker is a guy they still like. Among the JUCO ranks, Isaiah Iton is also on the target board and could be a take for the Tigers as well along with Byron Turner, who they just offered on Wednesday night out of Georgia Military College.
MARKUS ALLEN UPDATE:
- Back in early October, there was a lot of Missouri talk surrounding Allen after his decommitment from Michigan. However, an offer has never materialized between the four-star prospect and the Tigers. Our Wisconsin site, BadgerBlitz.com, caught up with Allen earlier this week where he mentioned Cincinnati, Wisconsin, Virginia, and Boston College were the teams currently sticking out that have offered. Allen also noted that he's considering Ohio State and Penn State as well, but neither have offered. This information leads us to believe that Missouri could be leaning towards the transfer portal when it comes to adding receivers to the roster.
PORTAL WATCH:
- After playing in four games this season, Temple running back Re'Mahn Davis decided to opt out the rest of the season and officially entered the transfer portal on Wednesday. Last season, Davis rushed for 936 yards while scoring eight touchdowns and also hauled in 15 catches for 181 yards and two scores. In four games this season, Davis tallied 308 rushing yards and one touchdown while catching 12 passes for 62 yards. He officially hit the transfer portal on Thursday and is someone Missouri could reach out to and gauge the interest level as they look to add to the running back depth chart.
- Evans is another backfield option that Missouri offered last month after he backed off his commitment from Tennessee in late September. The three-star prospect played his high school ball in South Carolina, so the Gamecocks could be a team to keep an eye on here as they were considered the favorites to land Evans back in the spring when he committed to the Vols. Despite our efforts, Evans is keeping things close to the vest, so it's hard to gather where he stands in his recruiting process in terms of favorites or a decision timeframe. However, he has tweeted out a few notable Mizzou graphics on Twitter recently, so take that for what it's worth.
NEW 2022 IN-STATE TARGET:
- We mentioned on the board a couple of weeks ago that Missouri had been in contact with Wesolak since September 1st, which was when coaches could directly contact 2022 prospects. The Tigers extended an offer to the Boonville native on Wednesday, joining other notable schools like Louisville, Michigan State, Iowa, Nebraska, K-State, Duke, Boston College, Tennessee, Arkansas, and others. Wesolak burst on the football scene last year as a sophomore and has emerged as one of the Show Me State top players in the 2022 class. Oklahoma also extended an offer to Wesolak on Thursday night.
BASKETBALL RECRUITING
The early signing period for the Class of 2021 will run from next Friday Nov 13 to the following Friday Nov 20. We believe all five of Missouri's current commitments will be signing during that period, but we'll be checking in with them over the next week to make sure of that. One signature we know to expect is Sean Durugordon, who will join the Tigers in the second semester.
We have no reason to expect that anything else will develop in the class in the early period. We believe the remaining (estimated) two spots will be filled via transfer or junior college additions in the spring.
As for the Class of 2022, Mitchell ran through Mizzou's list of known targets on Thursday morning. Rather than recapping it all here, it's much easier to read this version of our 2022 hot board.
