FOOTBALL RECRUITING

Missouri has its showdown on the road at Purdue this weekend, but a big recruiting weekend is on tap in Columbia next weekend when the Tigers host Georgia and they will also host some key official visitors.

This is what we have in terms of expected visitors right now, we'll obviously have a more detailed list in next week's Chamber.

Official visitors expected:

Potential visitors:

On Jackson, he just committed to Ole Miss and told RebelGrove.com that an official to Missouri next week is still a possibility. However, at this point, it's seems unlikely but we'll know more after this weekend.

Obviously, the situation with Young is still fluid at this point. After pushing his commitment date back a couple of times already, it appears he will finally make an announcement on the 20th and we're unsure if he'll completely shut things down or take other visits. We do know Ole Miss is starting to show some interest and he'll be in Oxford this weekend with Jadon Jackson, his HS teammate. They've talked about playing together in college, so if Ole Miss does extend an offer it will be an appealing option.

Getting Wilson on campus is something we expect to happen. While an official for next weekend isn't confirmed yet, one will likely happen at some point. Tennessee and Louisville are other schools he intends to take official visits too. We've attempted to reach out to him to get a better feel of where he stands with Missouri, but we've yet to hear back from him.

- We did an update with McGuire this week detailing his latest visit to Missouri, which was for the home opener against UT-Martin. He told us he plans to be back for the Georgia game, but is still not sure if will be an official or unofficial. Regardless, things continue to look very promising for the three-star prospect.

- A reminder that Boone is scheduled to make his commitment this Saturday at noon. From all indications we've been hearing, it should be Missouri. However, Boone will take other official visits, most notably to Kentucky and Indiana and potentially other schools as well. But Missouri is the runaway favorite here.

- We've seen Missouri extending offers to some 2020 prospect recently, mostly along the offensive line so far. Derek Dooley has reached out to this quarterback from the Atlanta area and is expressing interest. Wright also has a long standing relationship with senior offensive analyst Garrick McGee from his time at Illinois. He's a prospect to keep an eye on.

- Marcus Washington watch continues this week as he will take an official visit to Texas. The Trinity Catholic star is fresh off an official visit to Nebraska last week and said he plans to take his other two to Missouri and Florida.

BASKETBALL RECRUITING

Tried to get Mario McKinney on the phone tonight but he’s been tough to get in touch with and told me he’s been busy this week (this is the third time we've had plans to talk to him that have fallen through since the visit). He said he should have some time to talk this weekend.

I did ask him if he has any other visits set up at this point, and he said he doesn’t currently have any planned. He wouldn’t say much about when he plans to make his decision or if there are any other schools involved at this point. It still seems to be when--and not if--a commitment is coming.

I also asked him if where EJ goes to will affect his decision, and he said “Never.”

Considering he hasn’t rescheduled the Kansas State visit yet and that was the only other one he had planned, I’d say it’s looking good for Missouri right now.

As for E.J. Liddell, we were told by a source that Chris Hollender will pay him a visit in Belleville tomorrow. Ohio State and Illinois were both in this week, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them each visit him again to make a last push for him. Liddell will start his official visit to Illinois next Friday. Nothing has changed on this front: Illinois people seem confident they're in contention and in pretty good shape for Liddell. Nobody outside of Champaign seems to share that sentiment. At this point, you have to consider it a three-team race and we'll see what happens with Liddell over the next few weeks. He's pretty much shut down recruiting interviews, so information will be tough to come by. We can tell you Liddell was hosted by Mark Smith on his official to Mizzou last weekend. We've heard that things went pretty well...but things always go pretty well on official visits, so that doesn't mean a whole lot.

As for plans for the third scholarship, we're searching like you guys are right now. Eric Bossi talked to Christian Braun earlier this week and--as we've said for quite some time now--it just doesn't look like he and Missouri are a match. The Tigers don't seem to be pursuing all that hard. We think Harlond Beverly and Antavion Collum are guys to keep an eye on, but right now, we don't have a great feel for where the third scholarship will go after Tray Jackson committed to Minnesota.

A couple of new 2020 offers have gone out in the state of Michigan (both are posted on the board already):

The next few weeks should bring some clarity on the hoops front. This class is all about E.J. Liddell...and realistically always has been. If the Tigers get Liddell, they'll be happy with the class almost regardless of who else they get. If they don't, it will be a less than Plan A class. And so we wait.
