So I keep seeing Greg McElroy talk about this instead of a pod system or divisions. After seeing Sankey talk about it on Finebaum he mentioned schools not going to other places as often as they would like. Pod system is fine but could break up some games. If it went each team playing 3 teams every year I think it would look something like this.
Alabama: Auburn, LSU, Tennessee (Bama plays all their big games)
Arkansas: Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas (History and makes sense geographically)
Auburn: Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss (I had a tougher time figuring out which team to fill that last spot)
Georgia: Auburn, Florida, South Carolina
Florida: Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky (Honestly you could put Tennessee here as well)
Kentucky: Florida, Tennessee, Vanderbilt
LSU: Alabama, Mississippi State, Texas A&M
Miss State: LSU, Ole Miss, Texas A&M
Missouri: Arkansas, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt (I went with geography on this one. You could easily change this with Kentucky)
Ole Miss: Auburn, Miss State, Vanderbilt
South Carolina: Georgia, Florida, Tennessee
Tennessee: Alabama, Kentucky, South Carolina
Texas: Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M
Texas A&M: LSU, Miss State, Texas
Vanderbilt: Ole Miss, Missouri, Kentucky
You could then just group teams together and play group A one year and group B the next year alternating home and away. This way you still play your 3 (rivalry) games and play in a geographical area every year.
Example: Missouri Schedule group A
Arkansas, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, Texas, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina
Example: Missouri Scheduel group B
Arkansas, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, Miss State, LSU, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee
That's a 9 game SEC schedule and your team will have an opportunity to host every team and visit every team in a 4 year period.
