Drink was pleased with the win and the student turnout. He says they made it a great atmosphere.
He said special teams and punt coverage could use some work. He shouts at Bobby Lawrence for helping make a tackle on something that would have been a punt return for a TD.
Said run defense did great but can't give up big play TDs.
Said they have to be more physical in the trenches.
He believes KSU's Felix Anuikde Uzomah is a "first-round NFL type player."
He believes Deuce Vaughn is a good player who reminds him of Tyler Badie and believes he's only as good as his o-line (which he believes is the best part of the offense).
He said KSU are great at blocking punts and playing special teams.
Said OT's have to play hard for all four quarters against Felix and that Felix will play both sides of the line and will get a chance at both tackles. Felix is powerful and has a couple of bullrush-type moves to get to the quarterback.
Said Mizzou o line played on edges and allowed to much penetration vs LA Tech. He said they can be better in the run game and be cleaner.
Drink says there are things he feels a lot more confident in and that there are things to fix (he doesn't say what these things are). He said likes that the team has a hunger to get better.
Said the 3-3-5 is unique and that it puts guys on islands and it can lull guys to sleep in a zone.
Said he respects Klieman' s ability to replicate success from NDSU to KSU.
Said that playing six preseason big 12 selections from KSU is like playing a team from the SEC. So, it doesn't scare him that they have players everywhere.
He said Nate Peat was limited based on the amount of practice he had going into LA Tech game. (Didn't say if he was limited in the game itself.)
Said that Mizzou had 15% of tackles missed vs LA Tech (which is good). He thinks they tackled well in space beside a couple of plays that led to a couple of big plays. Open-field tackling was pretty good vs. a team who wants to create the one-on-one top.
Said that Vaughn's speed, talent, vision, and that his ability to play the zone run well is what worries him. Especially, since they struggled to play the zone run last season. Tackling him won't be too much of a problem since he's around Badie's size and this Mizzou defense obviously saw Badie a lot in practice last season.
He said Chance Luper is out of the hospital and back at home and now doesn't know how long he will be out (he told us 6-8 weeks last week). He said Coach Luper is doing well. Said Luper being out opened up chances for Mekhi Miller.
Said he thinks defensive scheme and disguise fit personnel. He thinks aggressive play call is better than last season. Also, the ability to play the same scheme (for the most part) has helped the team be better overall on defense.
