This post is probably not what you were expecting. I keep reading that one of the big knocks against Cook is that he can’t see wide open receivers and can’t throw downfield. Might be valid. Was just wondering what would you consider the cut-off for an SEC QB who CAN throw downfield?

Here are the Top 10 SEC QB’s from last year ranked by completion % for 20+ yard throws. This is based on SEC play only. Cook improved enough by the time we got to the conference schedule that he even sneaked onto the list.

The measures are:
# of Throws
Completion %
Average Depth of Target
% Passes Thrown under Pressure
# of Interceptions
% of Passes that were Catchable

Which QB’s do you think are good at throwing downfield, based on this? Which ones would you want, not want? I’ll reveal names later.

QB Throws Comp% ADOT %Press Int %Catch

A 23 47.8% 34.4 38.1% 2 82.4%

B 26 46.2% 20.2 34.6% 1 69.4%

C 30 43.3% 30.3 40.0% 0 76.7%

D 14 42.9% 31.5 35.7% 0 71.6%
