2022 will be a year that provides Missouri with a difficult, but not a killer schedule, a test of talent and coaching. Drink has made tremendous strides on the recruiting trail, but when will his coaching style and decisions start to receive the ultimate scrutiny? That said, it is painfully obvious to me that Drink needs to give up something to become a better head coach, maybe two things. The most simple would be the QB position coach, but he should too consider hiring an OC.
Think about it this way, Drink WANTS to do all these things ...
Head coach ... CEO of the program
Offensive Coordinator ... be the Wizard of Ahhhs
QB Coach ... the Svengali of the Team Leader
Lead PR representative (within the HC job description) ... the Machiavelli of the Media
Maybe Drink feels the need to be overly involved, maybe he thinks it is expected of him, maybe he feels he can handle all of this effectively? He cannot. Maybe he is delusional to the point that he believes that he can do it all and is egotistical to the point of eventual self destruction? Only time will tell.
The most effective and successful leaders are not hesitant to realize that they do not 'know it all' and will strive to improve to make themselves better. The first step is self-evaluation and then to entrust others with the responsibility and ownership of tasks that a leader needs to delegate.
