FOOTBALL Random Musings

Some smaller things I noticed last night that stood out:

1.) Tyler Stephens caught both passes thrown his way. The second was a pretty good catch too.

2.) Brayshawn Littlejohn was living in the backfield throughout the 4th quarter. Made several TFLs. That’s your LB 5? That’s some scary depth.

3.) Logan Reichert was overmatched. There’s more to playing OL in the SEC than being a massive human being. He has a long way to go.

4.) Mitch Walters has come a long way. Probably a good template for Reichert actually as he was lost early in his career too. He made two TD sealing blocks on runs. Going to be a key player in the Jumbo packages and feel confident if he needs to step in at any point in the starting lineup.

5.) DL depth is going to be just fine. Joe Moore looks physically bigger and more imposing. And Eddie Kelly was flashing as well. At DT, we had six guys taking snaps in the first half. That’s going to be huge later in the year if they can rotate that many guys in that spot.

6.) Blake Craig (Craig the Leg) looked super confident and has every bit of leg Mevis has. Going to need to see him hit a clutch kick to feel 100% confident. But he eased a lot of concerns.

7.) Luke Bauer has really taken it to another level. His two kicks were huge. Really pulling for him after everything he’s been through.

8.) They’ve got to get the PR game cleaned up. Letting kicks drop that they shouldn’t. Calling for fair catches when there’s plenty of room to get a return. It meant nothing last night. It will mean something in October.

I know social media only represents a small portion of the fanbase as a whole. Even those of us who subscribe here are a small number compared to the whole.
However, I am curious, those of you with Twitter/X accounts, what popular Mizzou fan account do you most enjoy or most relate to.
(While it can be a cesspool of hatred and negativity, I find CFB twitter fascinating and thus the curiosity.)

Brady Cook assessment

The dude sucks. His pass is wobbly. Misses targets all the time. Runs weird. Too skinny. Funny haircut. Questionable commitment to the program.

It’s seriously embarrassing to have this guy representing our program. I wouldn’t let my daughter date him.

Anybody know any good former varsity QB’s who are now Finance majors at Mizzou that could walk on this season? We need all the help we can get.

O-line

As with every takeaway from this game, obvious caveat that THIS WAS AGAINST MURRAY STATE.

BUT. Spent a decent bit of time just focusing on the big boys up front. Cannot believe what a monster Marcus Bryant looks like size wise. Have followed SMU for a long time, as I am from Dallas and my dad went there. Do not recall Bryant looking the part to that extent.

So so so giddy about this OL. Cayden Green looked very good. If Bryant-Green is truly a sizable upgrade over Foster-Delgado…buddy…this will be one of the 3-4 best OLs in America.

The turnaround of this OL from a weakness into legitimately what may be one of the best in the country is the most unheralded development of the last year or two. Credit to Brandon Jones and Drink.

Football and Basketball Full Game Replays

Shameless plug (I know), but decided last year at the start of the basketball season that I would record and then upload the full game replays for both men's basketball and football. I hate not being able to find an old game that I'd like to rewatch. You can see them on my YT channel if anyone is looking for those replays. They feature the entire game with no commercials. Easiest way to find them is to go to the playlists and look for them that way, as I also upload gaming videos as well.

Cook misses icing but still bakes cake

Can’t believe the angst over a few missed deep balls…Mahomes says hello…

Brady made good decisions and led the team to a win…

Didn’t need the deep hits…this would’ve been the icing…

Cook is money when needed…
Guy has some wheels!
Great that we took several deep shots…

They will come…
Go Brady go! Let the man COOK!!

Our QB Brady Cook...

will by his own standards, feel like he made some mistakes that need to be executed against SEC opponents. I am not trying to say anything other than he is our starting quarterback and is the player we are relying on to take this team to a CFP berth.

That being said, there was one play that really concerned me because it didn't involve a physical mistake but a mental mistake.

Just before halftime, MS was called for a roughing the passer penalty that moved the ball inside the 3-yard line with 17 seconds on the clock and one timeout left.

Brady then held up the play to step to the line to either change the play or get the O-line on the same page. The time started at 17 and ran to 8 seconds before he realized that the clock was moving and we got the snap, which was an incomplete pass with 5 seconds to go. Now it didn't really hurt us because Brady scored a touchdown on the next play.

What is concerning is we could have actually had a third play IF NEEDED if we snapped the ball at 16 or 17 seconds and not completed the same pass. We then could have run a second play with the timeout in our pocket before kicking a FG or scoring a TD. If no score, then TO and a third play would have been there.

It took me back to the strange events versus K-State and the delay of game penalty. Our coaches and our on-field game manager Cook will need to be more mentally prepared for these situations because one day it could jump up and bite us in a big way.

Again, Cook is our QB but a fifth-year senior with starting experience should already be prepared.

Sorry to ramble. MIZ...
