SCORE PREDICTIONS: MIZZOU VS MURRAY STATE - THANK YOU!!!

Ladies and gentlemen, Tigers and Tigerettes,

Thank you all! It’s an honor to stand here as the winner of the "Power Mizzou Score Prediction Contest," and what a prediction it was! Mizzou 51, Murray State 0—who would have thought? Well, apparently, I did!

But let’s not get too carried away—this wasn’t just about numbers; it was about the heart, the hustle, and a team that played with the ferocity of a jungle cat! Our Tigers didn’t just pounce on the opportunity; they roared right through it, leaving no doubt about who rules the gridiron.

Let's talk about that offense, shall we? They were on fire! Touchdown after touchdown, they clawed their way into the end zone, sinking their teeth into every opportunity. I guess you could say they didn’t just run up the score—they sprinted, leaped, and charged their way to 51 points!

And speaking of being unstoppable, let’s not forget about our defense. Those boys were ferocious! They didn’t just pitch a shutout—they threw a no-hitter, built a brick wall, and wrapped it in steel for good measure! Murray State couldn’t even get a paw in, let alone score a point. Our defense had them locked down like a Tiger with a steak—no chance of escape!

Now, let’s give a huge shoutout to the mastermind behind this big cat attack: Head Coach Eli Drinkwitz! Coach Drink didn’t just lead the charge; he unleashed it! His strategy was purrrfectly executed, and the way he’s got our team playing with such hunger and determination—you just know there’s no taming these Tigers!

So, here’s to Mizzou, to Coach Drink, and to the Tigers who didn’t just win—they devoured the competition! And hey, let’s keep the momentum going—who knows, maybe I’ll have to make another prediction next week. After all, this Tiger’s got some stripes to earn!

Thank you, and M-I-Z!

OFF TOPIC 8/29 other games thread since they start at 5

Howard @ Rutgers on BTN kicks us off

UNC @ Minnesota kickoff moved from 7 to 8 pm because of anticipated severe weather around the Twin Cities...worth monitoring as a potential nightcap

Pigs play Pine Bluff in Little Rock, beakers play on a soccer field across from Nebraska Furniture Mart, Bison vs Buffs, not a bad slate for a Thursday

FOOTBALL QUICK 2ND QUARTER THOUGHTS VS. MURRAY STATE

1. Trickery doesn’t work.

One of the few blemishes of the game for the Tigers is they motioned out half of their offensive line to the left sideline then the ball was snapped with Luther Burden running in front of Brady Cook in the shotgun. Cook hikes the ball and doesn’t pop pass it which would’ve resulted in an incomplete pass. He tried to hand it off and Burden fumbled. Murray State recovered, however, it only held on to the ball for one minute and 55 seconds before punting.

2. First punt.

It took 19 minutes and 10 seconds of game time for Mizzou to punt. I thought Luke Bauer was getting the day off.

Other Mizzou stats for this game with 10:42 left in the second quarter:

Tigers have 11 first downs, 107 pass yards, 96 rushing yards, and 3-of-3 in the red zone.

3. Back-to-back punts.

Ring the alarm bells! (I’m kidding).

The offense is a little bit flat in the second quarter. Following the fumble, Mizzou punts for the second time in a row after scoring twice on its first two offensive possessions in addition to Toriano Pride’s interception return for a touchdown.

4. Brett Norfleet's injury.
Around the two-minute warning in the first half, tight end Brett Norfleet went into the injury tent laboring at one of his shoulders. After he came out of the tent he was moving both arms and wasn’t hunched over like when he went to the injury tent.

Halftime: MUR 0, MIZ 35

FOOTBALL Things I’d like to see tonight

I’m excited the season is here. Glad we get a couple of dress rehearsals w the new D-coordinator. Not a luxury next year w likely a new O-coordinator & new QB but that’s another thread.

Thinking about things I’d like to see that would be promising:
- No offensive holding penalties
- Cook >70% completion
- Zion Young consistently disruptive
- Give up <60 yards rushing
- <2 explosive plays surrendered (20 yd. Pass, 10 yd rush)
- Rushing success behind the left side of line
- No sacks surrendered
- Mookie TD

FOOTBALL QUICK 3RD QUARTER THOUGHTS VS. MURRAY STATE

1. That's not ideal.

Blake Craig starts the second half by kicking the ball out of bounds on the kickoff. Of course, it doesn't matter because even the Racers did nothing with it.

2. Penalties

Around the 12-minute mark of the second quarter and the offensive line has three of the four accepted penalties. Left guard Cayden Green has two of them. Mizzou has six total penalties.

3. Blake Craig and red zone success.

Blake Craig made his first field goal attempt from 39 yards out. The team's first red zone drive ended in a field goal. Remember, that was one of the main focuses of camp. More touchdowns and fewer field goals.

Missouri is 4-of-4 in the red zone with three touchdowns as of 8:50 left in the third quarter.

MUR 0, MIZ 38

3. Second-team offense in.

After Chris McClellan forced a strip sack (recovered by Joe Moore) at Murray State's 10-yard line the starting offense was subbed out with 7:38 left in the third quarter.

Backups who played: Drew Pyne, Daniel Blood, Jamal Roberts. Jayven Richardson, Tristan Wilson, Mitchell Walters, Logan Reichert, Mekhi Miller, Drake Heismeyer, Mookie Cooper, Tyler Stephens

Jamal Roberts scored his first career touchdown from two yards out.

MUR 0, MIZ 45

TE Jude James and RB Tavorus Jones also saw some third-quarter action.

End of 3: MUR 0, MIZ 45
