BASKETBALL SIAP: National Media Taking Notice

Both Rothstein and Katz have us at the bottom of their power rankings.

Nice that we are creeping into the national media's radar, now to beat kU and/or Illini

Shoutout to DRF and Co. for engaging the students

This priority points plan they did for student tickets for the kU game was brilliant. With only ~ 4000 seats in the student section and about 9000 students with the all sports pass they had to do it differently.

For those that don’t know, you got a point for each of the 8 mens home games plus 2 womens games (they offered double points if you stayed until the end of last weeks WBB SLU game and Sunday’s men’s SEMO game).

8-10 points was Tier 1 for kU claims
5-7 Tier 2
4 and below Tier 3

If y’all havent noticed student attendance for the shitty noncon games was WAY up and it worked like a charm. I was in the first tier and claimed my kU ticket this morning. Seemed like football attendance was way up for students this year too. I’m a senior and this is far and away the most engaged I’ve seen the student body with sports.

Bravo to DRF.

FOOTBALL RECRUITING Possible name to watch

Got a heads up from someone that covers Pitt that there are rumors Slovis will be a grad transfer and that Mizzou has been one of the schools mentioned as a possibility if it happens. He isn't in the portal yet. May not enter the portal. My guy told me he thinks there will be some clarity on what his plans are for next year by the end of the weekend.

Again, this is mostly rumor right now, not coming from anyone around Mizzou. I still don't have a good handle on whether Mizzou will look to the portal for a QB or not. Just thought it's worth mentioning in case something comes of it down the road.

QUICK THOUGHTS ON MIZZOU'S 96-89 WIN OVER SEMO

-Another strong half for Kobe Brown, who mostly stayed out of foul trouble tonight. Noah Carter didn't have his best game today, so it was important for Kobe to step up. I think what impressed me the most was his defense. He did a really good job of anticipating where the ball was going and intercepting the pass and finished the night with a handful of steals. There's not a ton of forwards out there with that kind of defensive vision.

-I don't think there was ever any doubt Missouri was going to win, but they were never really able to put SEMO away. The Redhawks kept hanging around by roughly 12 points for most of the second half -- not close enough to really threaten an upset, but close enough that you have to keep your best players in the game. The Tigers had a really hard time slowing Phillip Russell down, it seemed like he could drive to the paint without much effort. I think it was probably a case of Mizzou not taking its opponent all that seriously.

-Dennis Gates went back to that three-point guard lineup that was working well against Wichita State. It didn't seem to click as well as last game, but it did helpt the team from committing as many turnovers, which was the main issue for a few stretches of the evening.

-Isiaih Mosley played in the first half and didn't in the second half. I don't have anything else to add there. Gates kept a pretty short rotation in general, though: Ronnie DeGray also didn't play in the second half. Aidan Shaw played just three minutes.

-Mizzou took care of business with the early portion of its non-conference schedule. The teams are about to get a lot more challenging. Buckle up.
