Thoughts on the Game Tonight

1) Winning is all that matters. First road game. First real test of adversity. Huge.

2) We were clearly the better team. They shot out of their minds and nothing would go in for us. Winning with that combination is not usually likely.

3) We did this without Mosley

4) East has a ton of potential but he is a little too out of control right now. I like his game tho.

5) This team can beat teams that are better than them if they shoot even decently.

6) Gomillion and Hodge are my favorite players.

Talking Mizzou women's hoops, WNBA, and the Sophie Cunningham Classic with KC Tigers

The “Mayor of Columbia” (unofficial) was in Kansas City for her first appearance at the Tiger Club. Sophie Cunningham talked about her outstanding Mizzou basketball career, her four years with the WNBA Phoenix Mercury, and her upcoming high school girls hoops event in Columbia.

Teaming with sister Lindsey Cunningham and Mizzou coaching legend Norm Stewart, the Sophie Cunningham Classic takes place Friday, Dec. 2 thru Sunday, Dec. 4. The three-day shootout for high school girls basketball players showcases some of the best-of-the-best high school players from Missouri and surrounding areas. The event is at Columbia College.

The Tiger Club meets for lunch each Tuesday during the school year at Westport Flea Market Bar & Grill. Our Dec. 6 guest will be Dennis Dodd, senior writer for CBS Sports.

College Hoops Refs This Year...

I have watched all of our games this year and a few others and I can't help but feel like the refs are really letting the players play. I've always been impressed by how much contact the NBA allows without bogging games down in to a foul fest. I always thought college games were the opposite. This year it seems like the refs got the memo to allow for more contact during the game the let the players decide it. But maybe that is just me.

Few random thoughts

If Lovett has concerns about QB play and attention shown to Burden and money isn't the driving factor, why hasn't he announced he's transferring? I mean, if those are his concerns and not money, how can they be reasonably addressed to his team's satisfaction? There's variables involved that Drink can't control. Which goes back to, it's about the money.

Lovett had a really good season, I can't lie, but he ain't Luther Burden. They shouldn't and won't ever be compensated the same even though Lovett had a better season. Lovett was Luther last year and didn't produce like Luther did this year. Also, Lovett is null and void inside the red zone because he's not getting those free releases off the LOS that he gets in the field of play. Half of Luther's TDs were because of his physicality and that will never be a part of Dominic's game.

I really can't see Drink bringing in another QB because he runs the risk of losing Cook and Horn. I can't see a high level QB coming here without the promise of getting the starting job. So if one comes, Horn and Cook will know it and be outta here. This is the transfer portal era, these dudes ain't staying to sit for a couple years.

Also, these last couple of weeks folks been saying if we had this version of Brady Cook we would've been 9-3. Well, if that's the case, why are folks so quick to get a 4 star retread QB? Another offseason, with spring and fall camp maybe we'll get an even more improved version of Brady's last couple of games.

Fundamental strategic error? Option B and what could have been.

Did Mizzou f*%K up its golden opportunity to play big boy football in the SEC?
Option A - Where Mizzou is now. This is 100% on Drink's decision to start Brady Cook. Not good.
Option B - Where would the Tigers be today IF they would have gone all in on Tyler Macon? Mizzou would have a happy Lovett ,and likely Miles McVay. East STL and North County locked up. Spread the NIL. Most of those STL stars going to Mizzou. Hindsight is 20/20, but I think Mizzou made a massive strategic blunder.
Question does anyone WHO ACTUALLY SAW MACON PLAY in HS think he couldn't have mustered 6 wins?
IF you didn't see him play, your comments have no bearing on my question. Thank you.
Drink MAY HAVE won the battle (6 wins this year), but lost the war?

BASKETBALL QUICK THOUGHTS ON MIZZOU'S 88-84 OT WIN OVER WICHITA STATE

-Mizzou came out in the second half entirely out of control - three missed 3s (most of them really early in the shot clock) and two turnovers. They're supposed to be the ones dishing out 10-0 runs in the span of 75 seconds, not receiving them.

-A big difference between the first and second halves was the Tigers stopped forcing turnovers. It let Wichita State slow the game down significantly, which didn't play into Mizzou's hands. That 2-3 zone is tough to crack and they didn't have to deal with it as much when they didn't give the Shockers time to set it up.

-Ronnie DeGray probably played his best game of the year so far, especially on the defensive end. I don't think he fits in all that well on offense, but he kept the machine humming while Kobe was on the bench in the first half and helped the team get back into the swing of things after struggling in the second. Dennis Gates notably put him in on defense for Wichita State's final possession of regulation.

-Kobe did not play all that well after coming back from foul trouble. He got pulled down the stretch of the second, which actually helped the team make a late comeback. I don't if he was in his head about getting into foul trouble in the first, but it definitely wasn't characteristic of him.

-Sean East had some clutch buckets in the second half. It's funny because when the game is calm, he plays out of control. And when the game is out of control, he plays calm. Gates played him and Honor together late in the second and in OT. It probably helped to have him off the ball more, but regardless, he was a huge help.

-The boards could've been a bigger issue for Mizzou. Noah Carter didn't allow it to be.

-While Mizzou definitely earned the win, Wichita State also definitely helped them out by missing free throws. Both can be true.
