FOOTBALL A thought about the offense

I wish they would play with more tempo. The staff seems intent on rotating receivers from play to play. This is a problem for a couple of reasons. The play clock is often down to 25 or under by the time the subs are made, and then the defense has the option to sub. Then sometimes the play is changed with 6 or 8 seconds left on the play clock. As a result, everything gets rushed. For a team that runs the no-huddle, it makes no sense. I’m not saying they need to be Tennessee fast, but I believe getting it snapped sooner would help and would put the defense on its heels.

Plus, I believe it would help Cook, who has excelled in the two-minute drill at the end of a half. Play faster!

FOOTBALL Interesting new study

One In Three Former NFL Players Think They Have CTE, Study Finds

HealthDay (9/23, Thompson) reports, “One in three former NFL players believe they have football-related brain damage that’s doing untold harm to their lives, a new study finds.” Regrettably, their concerns may be adversely affecting “their mental health on top of whatever risks they face from head injuries sustained during their careers, researchers report.” HealthDay adds that “about one-third of nearly 2,000 retired NFL players believe they have chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain condition linked to repeated head trauma, researchers reported.” The research was published in JAMA Neurology.

Jackson Arnold

Officially headed to the bench for OU

Honestly, if he gets pushed out after this season, I'd be totally on board with Mizzou pursuing him in the portal. Yeah, we all made fun of him and OU before the start of the year but I think he's still extremely talented. OU just jumped the gun getting rid of Dillon Gabriel to speed up the arrival of Arnold. Definitely would bring him in.

FOOTBALL Decision not to go for it: 4th and 2 on the 7

I don’t think this decision is getting enough scrutiny. Early in the game, this is a tone-setter type of call. Down 10-7, you just went 13 plays for 91 yards. At 3rd and 1 you should be going with the mindset I have two tries to pick up 1 yard and set up 1st and goal. It makes me think Drink and co don’t trust this offense or the staff is playing not to lose as opposed to playing to win. I wonder if the decision not to go for it shook the offense’s confidence.

If they punch it in there and Eli doesn’t go braindead at the end of half (all else holds true) Mizzou is up 27-10 late in the 3rd and the perception is a lot different.
