So... here we are at the end of the season.... and the old statement stands true. You're as good as your record. Drink, Lance and Klieman are all relatively new to their teams, and were presented with teams that had obvious and serious issues. But... well... you know.

So, why do we think Drink is better than the other two thus far? I am trying to remember what our argument is.

How many 12 Team Playoffs for Mizzou?

This is behind a pay wall....

But The Athletic looked back to 1998. Mizzou would have had 3 bids. 2007, 2010, 2013. I am surprised 2014 didn't make it frankly. So 3 or 4 all under Pinkel.

Neighbors since 2005
Mizzou 4 (yes and I am cheating and including 2014)
K Snake - 3 since 2005 (Billy Snyder was a machine from 1998-2003 though so 8 total.
kansASS - 1
Illini - 1
Nubs - 0 (4 total all before 2005)
Arky - 3
A&M - 3
Tenner - 0 (4 total all before 2005)

Mizzou is the b12 best out of conference win.

Listening to some of the talk shows there is discussion that even if with a TCU loss they may still be in the playoffs. It is crazy that by the fact they have one less loss than Alabama and Tennessee they get in over ether of them.

The big 12 best out of conference win is probably Mizzou. The only other P5 win against a bowl team is Iowa st over iowa. TCU did beat the 1-11 Colorado team and 7-5 SMU team.

What is crazy the b10 only win against a P5 level bowl team is osu over ND.

By contrast, the SEC has 6 wins against P5 bowl teams, including wins against Utah, Oregon, and Clemson. They also have wins over Louisville and cincy which are better than any b12 win.

The strength of the SEC most years will get you in the playoffs if you have the same record- but most years a conference champion and/or 1 less loss means you are getting picked over a SEC team.

That allowed Mizzou to clinch that bowl berth despite finishing the season with as many losses as wins — six victories, which didn’t exactly come against a murderers’ row of foes. MU beat Louisiana Tech, Abilene Christian, Vanderbilt, South Carolina and New Mexico State before the Tigers nipped the Razorbacks to qualify for one of the bloated lineup of 41 bowls. Many are just made-for-ESPN productions, some of which ESPN even owns, that are sparsely attended in stadiums that basically serve as huge, cavernous, TV studios.

Contrast that to the 1976 season, when MU also won six games. The conquests? Southern California, Ohio State and Nebraska, all on the road, plus North Carolina, Kansas State and Colorado at home. The Tigers finished with a better record (6-5) then than they did this year.

But in that pre-watered-down era, there was no postseason invitation for coach Al Onofrio‘s program (there were only 12 bowls then, and no playoffs). Cries for “Uncle Al” to be fired rang out, but he came back for another year.
