BASKETBALL RECRUITING
Mizzou added its fourth transfer of the offseason in former UMASS forward Ronnie DeGray III.
We have updated the scholarship situation here. It is certainly possible that some of the players in the first three classes stay in school for an extra year, but for now, this is how it stands if everyone remained on his original eligibility timeline.
Mizzou has one scholarship remaining for this class. We do not know if they will use it. At this point, we would lean probably 55-45 that they won't. Many will say "But what's the point in not using a spot?" The point is next year. As of now, Missouri has just one player set to leave after 2022. If you hold back a scholarship, it gives you an extra one to use for next year. If there is a player out there Cuonzo Martin thinks is an upgrade for this coming season at a position the Tigers need it, he still could certainly use the scholarship (a graduate transfer front court player would probably be the ideal scenario). But holding the spot makes sense unless there's someone you just don't think you can turn down.
Here's how the positions on next year's roster break down:
PG: Boogie Coleman, Anton Brookshire, Kaleb Brown (?)
SG: Amari Davis, DaJuan Gordon
SF: Javon Pickett, Sean Durugordon, Ronnie DeGray III
PF: Kobe Brown, Trevon Brazile
C: Jordan Wilmore, Yaya Keita
Understand, there is plenty of ability to interchange the guard spots as well as the forward spots (in other words, we list DeGray as a SF, but he can easily play the four in some lineups--the definitions of positions are a little murkier than they used to be in college basketball, but we're trying to fit them all into categories to make it simpler for you guys to look at.
As of now, here's how many scholarships Missouri would have for future classes (assuming no transfers out, which won't happen, and assuming all players that come in are freshmen, which also won't happen):
2022: 2
2023: 4
2024: 2
2025: 5
Again, they could use the final spot this year. If there's a grad transfer out there, it would make some sense. If not, it's our opinion--and only our opinion--that Mizzou would be better off keeping the spot for next year. Yes, transfers are higher than ever, but you don't necessarily want to be in the position of taking four or five of them every single offseason.
FOOTBALL RECRUITING
*As of this posting, Missouri has added four more official visitors to their June schedule.
- Missouri offered the massive JUCO offensive lineman just after he committed to Oregon on March 2nd and now Lewis will take a closer look at the Tigers' program from June 18th-20th. Oregon appears to be the only other school Lewis has an official scheduled to so far, but he also has other offers from the likes of Georgia, Auburn, Syracuse, and others. So, it wouldn't be a surprise if other visits are in the works for next month. Lewis played his high school ball at McAdams (Miss.), where he was a two-way lineman and signed with Gulf Coast C.C. to play defensive line, but was eventually moved over to the offensive side of the ball.
- No surprise that Johnson will be making the trek to Columbia, especially after we talked with him at the recent Rivals Camp in Dallas last month where he told us that Missouri was currently his top school. Baylor is also making a push here as well.
- Like Johnson, Himon setting up an official visit to Missouri doesn't come as a real surprise. The Little Rock native made the trek to Missouri back in March for one of the Tigers' open practices and has a close relationship with running backs coach Curtis Luper. Himon also has June officials scheduled to Vanderbilt (June 11th) and Louisville (June 25th).
- Richardson is another official visit we mentioned would happen a couple of weeks ago, he made his visit to CoMo public on Thursday. He'll be at Missouri on June 25th. The three-star prospect also has June officials set with Arizona State (June 4th), Florida State (June 11th), and Kentucky (June 16th). He plans to make his college decision on July 26th.

***We also talked with Park Hill South (Mo.) wide receiver Mudia Reuben recently, he told us that communication with Missouri has really ramped up of late. He mainly talks with assistants Bush Hamdan and Erik Link. He will be in CoMo on June 13th and will work out for the coaching staff. He said an offer from Missouri would be big as he's followed the program closely growing up. Reuben also plans to camp at Clemson, where his brother plays, and also has June officials scheduled with Kansas State and Vanderbilt currently. The three-star said he would like to be committed by mid-August.
*We are confident that Missouri is pursuing both Notre Dame transfer wide receiver Jordan Johnson and Auburn transfer defensive back Chris Thompson Jr. We have attempted to reach out to both, but haven't heard back yet, so we can't say how mutual the interest is. Missouri is interested in both. Johnson is an in-state player from DeSmet, who still has all four years of eligibility remaining. Thompson played high school football with current Tigers Ennis Rakestraw and Stacy Brown and would also have four years to play.
*Earlier in the week, Boonville DE DJ Wesolak tweeted that he would be attending Mizzou's Night at the Zou invite only event on June 2. We expect all of Missouri's commitments to be there, as well as some regional top targets in 2022 and 2023, plus Oklahoma DL Chris McClellan. Beginning in next week's Chamber, we'll update the running list weekly of confirmed attendees up until the event.
*There's been some intrigue with St. Charles DL Marquis Gracial. We've long told you the Tigers are in excellent shape with Alabama considered the primary competition. Gracial has planned to commit on July 29, but it appears that timeline may be changing.
There's certainly plenty of smoke here. If a commitment does happen soon, it's our opinion that's good for Missouri. Nothing has happened yet, but Gracial is certainly one to watch closely.
*It was reported earlier this week that Isaac Thompson would take an official visit to UCF. This isn't really a surprise. He told us last month he wants to take his five visits. Expect this to be a common theme with players in this class. Even the committed guys--and this isn't exclusive to Missouri--are likely to take some visits. None of them have really gotten to. The recruitments have all been done over Zoom and FaceTime. So a lot of these kids are going to get out and see some places. Most (including Thompson) will likely conclude that they made the right choice to begin with. But there are likely to be a good number of flips across the country this year just because of the unique situation these 2022 kids have been in this past year.
We'll keep you posted on all the developments throughout the week.
