BREAKING NEWS…. UPDATED MISSOURI COACHING SEARCH SITUATION

Really Jim Sterk is finished. We fired the wrong person. When he presented the three and was told no, he was effectively done and should immediately step aside. I agree with those who said Sunvold. Put him in the spot Dan Devine filled for a year to right the ship and hire an athletic director who can lead.

This is so wierd, and the least desirable situation we could be in. Now it’s public that Sterk’s 3 candidates were “rejected”, if the BOC want more. None of them will be hired, and now, who else is going to be interested that has a legitimate background for SEC football?!?! Sterk has so ****ed this up!!!

initial shock having worn off... I am not so sure Sterk is the one who messed this up. I agree that if these were his prime candidates he needs major help making the decision (unless these are the best of who would say yes). The real problem is the leak, and that seems to be from the BoC. Who on that board wants to embarrass Mizzou and stunt the football program? Or maybe, who feels the need to look important and leak this kind of information?

Give Healy what he wants and roll the dice. He will win the press conference and energy is infectious. If he's as good as everyone thinks, we could be back to where we want to be in 3-4 years. If he sucks, we're looking for a new coach and AD in 4-5 years anyway. Mizzou is going to have to take a risk to reap any real reward.

Problem is now the whole nation knows we are desperate. The price tag for a good coach just went up. For Christ sake I would take Petrino now over any of those guys!

Sunvold will step down as head of the BoC in January, and listening to him on the radio he is ready for life to return to normal. I can't speak for him, but he does not sound like a man looking to become an AD anytime.

I would’ve taken reach around Bobby first choice. Just win baby.

I don't blame him if he does. Jon owes us nothing, but we have a definite need for competent leadership. This was a major league F up. Sterk overpromised and under delivered.

Sorry... I know this will never happen... but if you are looking to generate instant "energy", and are willing to wait for a solution 3-4 years from now: fire Sterk & rehire Odom. Make a statement that you have full confidence in him, hire him a mentor, and see how much "energy" is generated by that. I have no doubt that 3-4 years from now Odom will be a good coach in the right situation. I know 6 wins is not sexy, but he has gotten us to a bowl the last 3 years and did a decent job navigating the 2015 debacle. Get him an AD that will support him and let's see what can happen.

Now back to reality....

You have to realize that this isn't a failing of Sterk, but rather, "we're" the reason for this. We don't fill our stadium regardless of opponent (like the teams we think we should be in the conversation with, but really aren't). We don't travel to other stadiums like other SEC teams. We don't give enough money to the program to have top facilities. We reap what we sow. We want the demanding end of the deal, such as getting a great HC, swapping out to get the hottest coordinator, etc. But, in all aspects of fandom that support that, we fail. Why would you an expect any AD to overcome our own shortcomings?

This is a really stunning development. What the hell does Anderson do now?

He will yes, because he is MR Sec guy.

No one national gives a crap about MU coaching search unless we hire one of the big names, which is not going to happen
This will get reported, people will laugh and shake their heads, and tomorrow nobody will care.

Maybe Sterk went out with an approved budget and he came back saying this is the best I can do with what you gave me to work with. They agreed to give him more and he's going back with more ammunition to "better" coaches

Gabe made significant updates to the original message. Much softer approach...

Barring 4D chess theories, at this point what do we have to lose? They should go for it.

Serious question... do we know this is a money issue? How do we not know that the money is there and that Sterk feels that these are the best candidates for the job? I may have missed something...

I can find a way to get behind Anderson, but the other two? I'd rather have Odom, seriously!

Maybe leak came from the person(s) on the BoC who presumably tapped the brakes on firing Odom, per @GabeD earlier report? If so, we've got major issues. Admin dysfunction is a non-starter to winning coaches.

From a Vol buddy:

“Damn. Well Tennessee wrote the playbook for firing coaches and ADs - want me to get VolTwitter to help? We’re bored with no coaching search.”

May be on to something here. Maybe Gary Pinkle wants the AD job so he is working behind the scenes to sabotage the coaching search making Sterk look incompetent, a'la Phil Fullmer and the Tenn searches.

Sterk screwed up fans' expectations by talking about $$$$ limitations not being an obstacle. Tough balance between sending the right signals to candidates w/o setting fans up for disappointment. Given the state of the union at Mizzou, Sterk didn't take the fans seriously enough.

And in the meantime our recruiting class continues to jump ship...With 3 of our best recruits either decommitting and/or opening up their recruitment the 2020 class will end up ranking in the bottom 1/3 in the nation...I'm glad Sterk had such a masterful plan in place...He would be better off hiring Brick Haley to be the new head coach and at least salvage the recruiting class...Go Tigers!!!

The only thing that's weird about this situation to me - well, a lot of it is weird - but the strangest one to me is the idea he'd float three names. WTF? Why not find "your guy" rather than sending three names in and going, "how do these suit you?" This isn't like he's going through dating profiles on Match. He's presumably interviewed these people and has someone in mind. But sending three in? Kind of odd - and I would be delighted with Monken and fine with Anderson.

It wouldnt matter who we hired, its a coaching change. You are going to lose kids and gain others.

No idea if it is or not but this sounds better than Sterk actually picking those three guys and having to be told to do better

His wife passing is supposedly why he basically is shopping himself around to other schools. That's not me being insensitive, it's fact. Sorry if you don't like it.

Totally misreading the situation. He was not going to take another job while his wife was sick. So he stayed 2-3 years extra than he would have absent the situation. Now he unfortunately has dealt with the situation and can focus 100% on football. In the meantime, while dealing with all that he kept winning.
