FOOTBALL QUICK 3RD QUARTER THOUGHTS VS. NO. 24 BOSTON COLLEGE

1. Luther Burden is having his breakout game and the offense is rolling.

Well, I predicted this so of course it would happen (it's a joke). Burden takes a pass 38 yards for what is the fourth-longest play of the year. He has two of the four biggest plays of the season in this game. As of the 10:31 mark in the third quarter and he has five receptions for 106 yards.

Tigers open up with a nine-play, 75-yard touchdown drive to open the second half with Brady Cook getting in from six yards out for a rushing score.

MU has got 21 unanswered points and that's all coming on its last four drives (FG, TD, FG, TD).

2. This Mizzou defense is waking up.

The defense struggled early on allowing 14 points in two of the first three drives, but then it followed it up with an interception and two consecutive forced punts.

BC's T.O.P on the last three drives 0:34, 2:18 and 1:36 as of the 8:55 mark in the third quarter.

Make that four consecutive stops for the defense. Mizzou has figured out a three-man rush with a spy is better than truly rushing four. Let Castellanos beat them. He's made some great throws but he's not leading a comeback by doing that.

3. Penalties derailing offense.

Luther Burden took someone's mouthpiece and chucked it. So, a 15-yard penalty followed by an ineligible man downfield penalty on second and 25 (that Joshua Manning got a 23-yard reception. Then, on the next play Mekhi Miller got called for an illegal blindside block and then Luther Burden got called for unnecessary roughness after the play by throwing the ball at someone on BC's sideline. Had that been another unsportsmanlike conduct penalty he would've been ejected.

Missouri lost 56 yards on four straight penalties.

It ended up being second and 58 before Noel gained 24 yards to make it third and 34 entering the fourth quarter.

End of 4th: BC 14, MIZ 24

FOOTBALL Absurd Assumptions Week3 vs Boston College

Each week I take a look at the potential outcomes of the upcoming game on an absurd level. This is an unprecedented year and so far the path to the playoff is open or closed based on the teams effort only.

1. Mizzou is 3-0 by 3PM Saturday. Not the most absurd assumption I have ever made. This is a must win to reach the CFP goal I have for this team.

2. BC has had 98 rush attempts in it's 2 games this year. BC will try to impose it's will on us through it's rush attempts. 5.8yards per rush. I believe we can shut down the rushing attack and keep BC under 130 rush yds on the day.

3. Passing attempts over the last two games were a paultry 21 attempts which resulted in 6 TDS usually off a swing/rail/wheel route. 1 out of 3 passes result in a TD. This cannot continue into our game this afternoon

4. With limited PD attempts it makes it harder to reach milestones. I will say Mizzou gets at least one T.O. I believe that we can get 5 pass deflections during the flow of the game.

5. 4 different rushers will hit pay dirt.i have to admit the O line has been looking beastly as they continue to dominate within the run game confines

6. Mizzou scores 30+ and manages to keep BC under 16.

7. We (Mizzou) needs to increase its TFL numbers. We need to average 6 or better to get the individual production we would like to see.

8. Dan Mullen says something ass backwards during the broadcast

9. Your 3-0 Mizzou Tigers stay undefeated and in the hunt for a birth in the CFP!

10. I think that Speedy and Manning for some reason have solid production games. Assuming LB3 may still be down

As per usual this is for enjoyment and promoting conversation around the team. The opinions are mine and mine alone. Please enjoy and let the commenting begin.

FOOTBALL QUICK THOUGHTS AT HALFTIME

To be leading that game is impressive. Mizzou looked lost for about 22 minutes. And then it found itself.

The lack of pass rush is pretty easy to explain: Missouri isn't trying to sack Thomas Castellanos. It's trying to keep him in the pocket and counting on him making a mistake. He's done that a few times.

BC's two touchdowns came after awful third down penalties (one a stupid penalty, one a questionable call). The defense found itself a little bit.

If you score on the first drive of the second half, you put BC in catchup mode. They can't hand it off and take seven minutes per possession. So you should do that.

Hated the clock management at the end of the first half, but Blake Craig bailed them out. Kick would have been good from 65.

Biggest concern for me is the offensive line. It's getting cooked on a lot of passing plays. Brady Cook hasn't been great, but he hasn't been awful. He's had some drops and at least four or five plays where he has to throw the ball in 1.5 seconds. Give him some help.

With about 10 minutes left in the second quarter I told @JHamilton23 "If Luther is the guy everybody thinks he is, he needs to show up now." He did and he is.

Around the league

USCe might not win today, but they are a much improved team. LSU just failed to score from 1st and goal at the 2.

Bama seems to be taking the Badgers seriously and are destroying them.

I thought Tennessee played like a top 3 team last week. The Wolfpack might suck however. Tied with LA Tech at home.

This is gonna be a helluva year to follow the SEC.

FOOTBALL QUICK 2ND QUARTER THOUGHTS VS. NO. 24 BOSTON COLLEGE

1. Keep toting the rock on the ground because nothing else is really happening.

He has four carries for 47 yards. He ran the first two plays of the team's second possession and then Marcus Carroll ran on the third play and got five yards. So, just run the ball.

However, that leads to nothing — Mizzou punts from BC's 48-yard line. There was one play where Theo Wease should've got some help with a defensive pass interference but there wasn't a flag. Then on third and six, Cook overshot Mookie Cooper on an out route that would've led to the first down. He was getting pressured, though.

Cook is 4-of-9 for 34 yards.

2. Defensive miscommunication

I've seen at least twice now that the defense is having communication issues where they don't know where they're going. Then, BC capitalizes. That happened on BC's first touchdown. Mizzou should've called time out. Then, on a third and four Sidney Williams is trying to communicate with his fellow defensive backs and Castellanos throws towards the flat where Williams should be and the Eagles pick up the third down for a gain of 15.

3. A muffed snap leads to a BC touchdown.

Castellanos is the truth. He muffed the snap and then rolled left and had two receivers he could've thrown to for the 67-yard touchdown. He chose Reed Harris and now BC is up double digits.

That one was on S Marvin Burks' watch. The receiver looked like he was doing a screen or something and then he just ran straight past Burks. I think the muffed play led to Burks running to the ball instead of covering the receivers.

BC 14, MIZ 3

After that an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty called on S Joe Charleston on the kickoff. Mizzou starts on its 10-yard line.

4. Missouri answers kind of.

Cook had a pass that looked like it went through a defender's hands but Luther Burden caught it for a gain of 44.

A couple of plays later Connor Tollison snapped the ball early to Cook when the QB wasn't ready and it was almost a disaster. The offensive line on passing plays isn't great but on run plays the unit is phenomenal. Mizzou is averaging 6.5 yards per carry. A couple of plays later Mookie Cooper drops a pass on what was a less-than-accurate throw from Cook. Mizzou settles for a field goal from 38 yards out.

BC 14, MIZ 6

5. Tre'Vez Johnson with an interception leads to a touchdown drive.

The safety comes up with the interception and gets 22 yards. MU starts the ball on the 25-yard line and a few plays later Cook connects with Burden for a 19-yard TD. Mizzou gets the two-point conversion with Noel at running back on a wildcat run.

BC 14, MIZ 14

Missouri hasn't played that well and it's still in the game. That's a good sign. However, I think it has to tighten up. I'm not a fan of how the secondary has been playing. Castellanos is connecting. I know MU isn't trying to rush because it's trying to keep contain on the QB and if that's the case the secondary has to do better.

That's bad clock management by Eli Drinkwitz. He got a first down with 17 seconds left and didn't call the timeout and then only gained nine yards before calling the timeout.

Blake Craig nails a 55-yarder that could've been good from 65.

End of 2nd: BC 14, MIZ 17
