BASKETBALL QUICK THOUGHTS ON MIZZOU @ ARKANSAS AT THE HALF

-Mizzou broke out a 2-3 defense, something they haven't run very much of at all. It makes going up a team like Arkansas, though, which has struggled to shoot from deep all season and gets most of its buckets from inside. The zone's worked exactly how the Tigers have wanted it to and they've done it without their biggest player on the floor for most of the game.

-The team is, however, getting absolutely clobbered on the glass. It wasn't going well when Kobe Brown was playing and it got worse when he left. Through the first 15 minutes of the half, Arkansas had 16 points -- 11 of them came from offensive rebounds. Mizzou can pull away if it takes care of business on the boards.

-Sean East provided a punch when he came in for Kobe, there really wasn't any drop off when he came on. I think he's another guy who's really starting to understand what his role is and where his shots are going to come from in the offense.

-I can confirm D'Moi Hodge is still extremely chaotic in transition. He's giving Arkansas' ball-handlers all they can handle.

-I think Eric Musselman realized after the LSU game he can't keep his starters on the floor for all but 12 minutes. Kamani Johnson's been pretty good for them, I used to watch him play against Texas State when he was at Little Rock, he's incredibly physical. We'll see how much of a difference it makes fatigue-wise down the stretch.

-Mizzou had some really tough possessions late in the half, which let Arkansas trim the lead down. The Razorbacks do that to every team, but the Tigers will need some answers in the second half.

OFF TOPIC SIAP - Jim McElwain? Maybe, Maybe Not

Best part of the story:

"As a veteran of several message boards myself, McElwain will not be a true poster until he puts off a recruiting film evaluation session in order to get the last word in a 15-page thread on whether or not beans belong in chili.

When that day comes... welcome to the club, Coach."

Honest question re: a WR coaching QBs

It always seems strange to me when a non-quarterback coaches quarterbacks. QB strikes me as a position that is unique, highly specialized and should therefore be coached by someone who has played the position at a high level, i.e. Josh Heupel (Mr. Personality). It seems like this would also help with recruiting. Do elite QB recruits want to be coached by a wide receiver?

I am quite sure I am missing A LOT in my thought process, but I would really like to know where I am off. Any former QBs on the board?

FOOTBALL RECRUITING Eastern Michigan OL transfer

Offered by Missouri yesterday, along with Illinois, Virginia, Kansas, Wisconsin, Oklahoma State, Cal, Louisville, South Carolina, Kentucky and others since entering the portal on Thursday.

Johnson on his interest in Missouri: "My family has been in contact with the coaches there and they like them. They are definitely in the potential line up for an OV."

We'll see how this plays out. Considering the amount of offers he's already received, wouldn't be surprised if a lot more came his way in the coming days. He was the starting left tackle for Eastern Michigan this past season.

Couple of Fresno State OL in the portal

No clue if Mizzou has interest in either or vice versa, just throwing the names out there

Offensive Cordinators

Kirby was a candidate for the BSU OC as well. But other than that, couldn't find much on him not already out there. Did find more on Hamdan.

Always the Boise connection.
  • Apparently the BSU writers knew a hire was on final stages on Dec 12. But they had no idea it was Bush. (News broke on Dec 14)
  • Apparently, BSU's stud QB was a draw.
  • Also a target for Boise (and many pined for him) was Kirby Moore.
  • The previous OC was fired, made only $270k.

BASKETBALL Q&A with former MU men's basketball player Kelly Thames...

Some of you might enjoy reading this...

Do you see any similarities between not only the '93-'94 team, but any of the past Missouri teams and this Missouri team today?
It just seems like all the guys, they play for one another. They get along well. They all cheer each other on; there's no egos. They don't care who scores. Everybody is just happy, and they're just trying to get a W.
I think that you can just see and sense that when they play and they showed it, so I think that's one of the things that I really recognize when they're playing.
