FOOTBALL DRINK POSTGAME PRESSER AFTER 27-17 LOSS TO WAKE FOREST

Drink said the loss is basically on him and that he's proud of them. He said that he's proud of the team for taking the lead in the third but he has to put them in a better position to score in the 4th quarter.

He said underclassmen have to use this game as fuel.

He said every time they got momentum they shot themselves in the foot with penalties or sacks and that's why they ended the game with three turnovers on downs and two punts.

Tyrone Hopper's shoulder popped out again.

He said Chad and Ennis are just competitors and that's why there was a skirmish .

He said it was good to see Mookie and Peanut step up. He said they have to continue to grow WR room and create rhythm offensively.

He said Luther's muffed punt was a "true freshman trying to make a play"

He said the defense plays too well for the offense not to score in the 4th quarter.

Drink said he couldn't make the memorial service on Tuesday because of bowl prep and that's why he got that shirt made yesterday. He said it was a tribute to him.

Coach is with D-Rob and Banister at the podium and he said that the pair don't flinch and keep fighting. He said the underclassmen owe it to them to keep it moving forward. He said they have to fight through NCAA sanctions, COVID, coaching changes etc. He called them the foundation of turning it around.

Banister said he's thankful for Drink for allowing him to play and he said it's bigger than one game. He reflects on relationships he's made and that he's forever grateful to the university.

Eli was asked was this season successful and he said success isn't always linear. He said to be 2-4 and then lose a number of one-possession games and then fight back after the bye --- the seniors are successful, but that him as a coach he's not successful.

Darius Robinson will play in the East-West Shrine bowl and says he hasn't made a decision yet to go to the Draft. He said in the next week or two he will have an answer.

Robinson said that players have to do a better job at executing.

When I asked about the offensive line play he said that he said "it's a next-play philosophy," but that they went 2 of 5 on 4th down and didn't score in the 4th quarter and that's why they loss.

Banister said this should've been a nine or 10 win team. He said that he will tell the underclassmen that the opportunity is there to take that next step.

Drink is a little choked up after Banister says some nice words about how hard he preps these guys an what he's done for them.

FOOTBALL 2023 Schedule

There's been some talk about the 2023 schedule being "favorable". Let's take a look...

Dycubs9.jpg

We start with 2 games I think we can all agree should be wins. K-State, at home even is not a game we will be favored in. Memphis at a neutral site is a game we should win, but no guarantee. We will be the favorite.

Vandy should be a given, but it's on the road. LSU at home and Kentucky on the road (struck gold in the transfer portal QB market) we will be underdogs. South Carolina at home could go either way as far as who is favored. We then get our bye week.

The last four games we will be underdogs. Perhaps Florida will be close to a pick 'em by this stage of the season. Arkansas is on the road, certainly no guarantee we will be favored no matter where each team stands.

There's 5 games one could reasonably consider us favored in at this early stage, 3 non-con, @Vandy and South Carolina. Only Florida and @Arkansas are reasonable candidates to swing our way as the season develops, and those are the final two on the slate. The season could be in shambles at that point. Point being, in no way is this a "favorable" schedule, and actually sets us up to completely come off the rails as it progresses being so front loaded.

BASKETBALL Mizzou/Kentucky sold out

Columbia, Mo. – Fresh off its largest win over a ranked opponent in 12 years, the Missouri men’s basketball team has sold out its SEC opener versus Kentucky, announced on Saturday.

A second-straight capacity crowd at Mizzou Arena marks the first time MU has sold out back-to-back games since the 2017-18 campaign. While no tickets remain for the 11-1 Tigers’ conference opener on Dec. 28, there are still seats left for the remaining nine contests at Mizzou Arena this season – eight SEC matchups in addition to a SEC/Big 12 Challenge contest against Iowa State Jan. 28.

Mizzou is coming off a 93-71 victory over Braggin’ Rights rival Illinois on Thursday – marking the Tigers’ largest win in the series and the team’s biggest victory over a ranked foe since November 2011. Overall, Mizzou enters SEC play with an 11-1 record – tied for the best mark among conference schools.

Merry Christmas Tigers fans….

In the olden days, this was a board of true sons who wore the moniker of “Tiger fan” with pride. The times have changed and the forum has evolved, but I wish my fellow Mizzou brethren a Merry Christmas snd Happy New Year!

We are a lonesome lot who live snd die by the success of our sports teams and the success of our beloved university. May 2023 see our teams successful and our pride rewarded!

FOOTBALL What comes next?

Seems obvious Jeffcoat is gone. Based on what I've seen and heard it seems likely to me Darius Robinson is as well. Here are the questions:

1) What happens with Ty'Ron Hopper and Jaylon Carlies? This is the most important thing, at least defensively
2) How many running backs leave? If you play RB and your name is not Cody Schrader, there's a decent chance you're looking at the portal. We'll see who stays and who goes.
3) What's the plan at QB? I tend to agree with the crowd that says if it's Brady Cook, you're looking at another year very similar to this one. I just don't know how much more there is there. How ready to they think Sam Horn is and how much do they trust that evaluation? Do they go after a transfer? If Cook isn't starting will he stay? So many moving parts here, glad it's my job to ask the questions and not answer them.
4) What happens coaching staff wise? They've already lost one. I'd be stunned if they don't lose more. The shuffling has been pretty constant here for the last three years. Who goes and who stays and most importantly who does he hire to replace those who go?
5) Can you win the portal again? This time mostly on the offensive line. If not, I'm not sure the rest of the questions matter much.
6) What's good enough next year? I'm gonna write some about this Monday in the ten thoughts, but just putting it out there for you guys to discuss

FOOTBALL Hard to not feel good about Drink

Even with the loss last night, pretty damn impressive to get this team to a bowl game with the OL and QB woes.

He's stacking up talent in his recruiting classes that will continue to make us better, especially once his QB's get incorporated. The OL is a problem area he needs to find a solution for but he made the hires needed & found the right players to improve the D so you have to think he'll figure out a fix for the OL as well.

Agree we need an OC but Horn should make a huge difference compared to this year...Brady plays hard but just doesn't see the field well. Drink needs to give Horn the keys now that he has a year in the system and let's see where this thing goes!

The future feels very promising!

Drink understands the issue at OL and . Qb

Fans whose majority of football experience is playing Madden on Xbox in their parents basements continue to beat a dead horse saying Drink is stupid and is intentionally playing Cook for some unknown reason over Horn and are not aware of the issues at Oline. For gods sake every Player on every play is filmed from multiple angles and graded for every play For assignment, execution, and effort. They spend hundreds of hours in practice with the players. Practice is filmed and graded. They know what the fffing issues are. The question is can they fix it. Last year they tried to get every big name QB in the portal. If Horn deserved to start, he would have. It’s ridiculous to think coaches are intentionally putting players who don’t deserve to start in the the lineup. Their main oline transfer got ruled ineligible. Probably one of the only players out of a 1000 to get ruled ineligible to transfer. When Drink figures out what he needs to do in the off-season to keep his job paying him Millions I promise they will be trying to figure out what needs to be done at QB and OL. They will investigate the portal, they will try to get Horn and Cook better, and they will see how fast the freshman can adjust to college football. On the offensive line Reichert is the first 4 star since 2015 I believe. Missouri has historically recruited 3 stars and had to develop them. A legitimate question is whether the player development on oline has fallen apart or whether the 3 stars they recruited were misses. He has to fix the player development at oline and he needs the portal to address the depth issue at Oline. It’s the biggest issue. The other Major issue is the percentage of high level starters they are losing on defense. Instead of constantly being negative try being positive and say thanks to players like Cook, Schroeder, Bailey, and Bannister who gave it every thing they could last night to win that game.
