POWERMIZZOU SPONSOR/CHANCE TO HELP MIZZOU NIL

James Carlton State Farm in Webster has sponsored our shows throughout football season. We're happy to announce that James has re-upped with us to continue his sponsorship on the site through basketball season.

James is a die-hard Mizzou fan. I know a few people who use him for their insurance needs and have only heard good things. The part that might most interest you all, if you contact James' office and get a quote from him and mention PowerMizzou he's going to donate $20 to Mizzou's NIL collective. You don't have to make the change in your agent. You just have to contact him and get a quote. So hopefully he can save you money. Even if he can't, he wants to get to know Mizzou fans and help the NIL efforts in the process. Win/win for you guys.

How this year's bball squad stacks up to previous MU teams so far

Sports Reference Simple Rating System (SRS) is an overlooked but very informative stat that uses average point differential and strength of schedule to assign a rating. Right now, Mizzou has an SRS of 12.67. If they stayed in the range, here's how historical MU teams with similar ratings faired:

  • 1994-95 - 20-9, lost second round (SRS: 11.94)
  • 1954-55 - 16-5, didn't make tourney (SRS: 12.16)
  • 1975-76 - 26-5, lost regional final (SRS: 12.35)
  • 2020-21 - 16-10, lost first round (SRS: 12.37)
  • 1998-99 - 20-9, lost first round (SRS: 12.5)
  • 1999-00 - 18-13, lost first round (SRS: 12.55)
  • 1979-80 - 25-6, lost regional semifinal (SRS: 12.81)

FOOTBALL Monday transfer musings

This will be a pretty regular thing. I'll run down the guys that have transferred and offer a quick comment

Dominic Lovett: Covered that. Looking for NIL. Had a bit to do with QB stuff, a bit to do with being a No. 1 receiver who didn't feel as if he was treated as a No. 1 receiver from what I'm told. Big loss without question.

DJ Jackson: This one was weird. Played quite a bit last year. Did not play much this year. Was suspended midseason. There was actually a time where it was believed he was kicked off the team. He was allowed back on. But he didn't play much at all this season. Seemed kind of odd to me he was so clearly down the rotation at the start of the year, but has been obvious he wasn't gonna stay.

Travion Ford: Didn't play all year. Wasn't ever going to play.

Tyler Macon: If you didn't see this coming, I don't know what to tell you.

Multiple sources have told me Mizzou had a team meeting today. At that meeting, players were informed if they planned to leave they should leave and should not play the bowl game.

There are more players that could leave both before and after the bowl game. The defensive backfield is probably the most important area to watch. Multiple people have told me that Kris Abrams-Draine and Ennis Rakestraw are guys that are considering leaving. Neither has done so at this point and it's possible neither does so. There are others I've heard as possible, but haven't heard as much so don't want to get too far into the rabbit hole of speculation.

There are a handful of guys that I'd be surprised to see back based on playing time: BJ Harris, Elijah Young, Gavin McKay, Michael Cox, Tyler Jones

Again, I don't love handling it this way, but it kind of has to be done so you guys are ready if it does happen.

The divorce portal

First and foremost, I want to thank my wife for the opportunity to be a husband. We had two wonderful years together and I would not be the man I have become without her love and support. I also want to thank my in-laws for standing by me through thick and thin. I will always cherish the memories. Having said that, after a great deal of soul searching and discussions with my financial adviser, minister and lawyer, I feel it is my best interest to explore what other female options are available and continue my journey elsewhere and so I want to announce my intention to enter the divorce portal. Please respect my decision.

Changes let high school athletes bank big endorsement bucks...

Interesting stuff here...

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Jada Williams was a social media star and a talented point guard when she moved with her mother from a Kansas City suburb to San Diego, looking to play basketball for a high school powerhouse and parlay her online prowess into endorsement deals.

She found it all in California, which has become the trendsetter among the 19 states that allow high school athletes to profit from their name, image and likeness without affecting their eligibility to play in college.

The 17-year-old Williams is now pulling in six figures a year from six major endorsement deals. The senior at La Jolla Country Day School has signed to play at the University of Arizona.

Three high school stars are at the top of On3.com’s NIL valuations, which include both college and high school players. They are Bronny James, the son of Lakers star LeBron James; Arch Manning, the third generation of the first family of quarterbacks; and Mikey Williams, a basketball star at San Ysidro High in San Diego.

James tops the list with a valuation of $7.5 million. He attends Sierra Canyon High in the Los Angeles area and recently signed a deal with Nike.

Mikey Williams, who has committed to Memphis and has a multiyear deal with Puma, has a valuation of $3.6 million.

Manning, who attends Isidore Newman High in New Orleans and has committed to Texas, is at $3.4 million.

Favorite part of last night…

….being down 10 late and coming back to tie it.

If this was a Cuonzo team that NEVER would’ve happened. This is why offensively minded teams that push the tempo with multiple weapons are a lot more fun than the slow drag it out defense is everything teams from the 70s. is it perfect? No… Does it mean they can give up large swaths of points in a row? Yes. But damn it’s a lot more pleasant on the eyes than what we’ve gone through the last few years.
