BASKETBALL QUICK THOUGHTS ON MIZZOU'S 73-64 LOSS TO FLORIDA

-Colin Castleton really found his footing in the second half, he completely stuffed the stat sheet. Mizzou didn't have many answers for him.

-I thought the Tigers missed a lot of bunnies, which has to be soul-crushing when you're trying to build momentum. They did a really good job of getting to the rim, they just didn't finish as many as they should. The refs let a lot of contact go in this game, but I thought that was the case on both ends, at least.

-Mizzou tried and tried to get a run going. Florida just wouldn't let them do it. Kobe had a dunk to trim the lead to five and Florida matched it on the other end. Kobe hit a 3 on the next trip down to quiet the crowd and the Gators matched it, again. That's good teams do at home, though. Mizzou's gotta find a way to keep going.

-Again, I don't think Mo Diarra deserves too much criticism for how he played. But I do question Dennis Gates' decision to throw him into the game in crunch time. Gates had called timeout down six and put Diarra in the game. Diarra somehow got matched up on Kyle Lofton and committed a foul 40 feet from the basket, sending him to the line for bonus free throws. Diarra was subbed out after the first free throw. Neither Kobe Brown nor Noah Carter were in foul trouble. The foul on Diarra wasn't good, but I don't think he should've been on the court to begin with.

-It's the first time this year Mizzou's lost back-to-back games. They've got two really tough ones next week. The good news is that the season is far from over, they'll be at home and they'll have time to regroup. Arkansas just lost to Vanderbilt -- they're not invincible. But the Tigers do seem like they need a reset.

BASKETBALL QUICK THOUGHTS ON MIZZOU VS. FLORIDA AT THE HALF

-Great start from Mizzou. It seemed like they really came out looking to correct what went wrong against Texas A&M. This is the SEC, though, so you knew Florida was going to settle in and make their own run.

-Huge, huge, huge minutes from Tre Gomillion. He seemed to be the conductor during the team's game-opening run. He hasn't been as productive in the past few games, but he's stepped up today.

-The offense once again got muddied up once Florida stopped turning the ball over and forced the Tigers to play in the halfcourt. I think Mizzou did a good job at getting to the free throw line to counter it. If easy shots aren't coming naturally, try to draw contact.

-Missouri's done a decent job against Colin Castleton. He hasn't been a non-factor (it's rare that an All-SEC player is) but he also hasn't taken over the game. I think it's especially impressive that the Tigers have only allowed two offensive rebounds while grabbing 4 of their own.

-Mo Diarra got a bunch of short stints in the half. A few of you have asked if we would ever see him in the rotation and Gabe and I would always say "Whose minutes does he take?" The answer is Aidan Shaw, who didn't play at all in the first half. I think it's too early to say that one is clearly better than the other. But it's clear there aren't really enough moments for both players to get on the court.

BASKETBALL Porter and Chievous lead the way to victory...

over my Troy Buchanan girls last night...I'm mildly surprised these girls are going to Rock Bridge and not Tolton like their older brothers.

Anybody familiar with these two and are either or both big time college prospects?

70's Big 8 Basketball (by Phillips 66)

Every Saturday was a double header and I never missed both games. I got to thinking about some of the great players in the league and Jack Hartman's K-State Wildcats were a perennial power then. Besides John Brown, Willie Smith, Larry Drew and Kim Anderson Mizzou had.....Al Eberhard, Jim Kennedy, Scott Sims, Clay Johnson, Curtis Berry

K-State - Lon Kruger, Mike Evans, Chuckie Williams

Colorado - Scott Wedman, Emmet Lewis

Oklahoma - Alvin Adams

Iowa State - Hercle Ivy (scoring machine from St Louis)

Anyone recall those days and players I am missing.
