Luther Burden’s Freshmen Year

Touchdown Luther’s first year is completed (minus the bowl game to come). The off-season hype and expectations were lofty and I believe LB3 met the touchdown aspect of these lofty expectations. Luther accumulated 420 total yards (325 receiving, 95 rushing) with a total of 9 touchdowns. The athleticism is eye popping, the hands and adjusting to the ball needs more consistency. Looking forward to his sophomore year with better QB play and better play calling.

FOOTBALL Say what you want about Brady

but he’s played 3 of his best games as a tiger the past 3 weeks. He is far from a perfect QB, but he plays hard every week and hasn’t lacked in effort despite all the noise about if he’s a worthy starter.

He may not be the QB of the future, or even next season, but Cook has done well for this program to lead us to a 6-win season. Even if he was disappointing at times, I’m happy to see the regular season end on such a positive note.

Excited for what this offense can do next year, led by Cook, Horn, or whoever ends up as QB1.

Lane Kiffin

Interesting stat:

In three years at Ole Miss, Lane Kiffin does not have a win over a team that finished with a winning record in SEC play. Kiffin is 23-12 overall at Ole Miss and 14-11 in SEC play. He has not had a losing record in league play. He won the Outback Bowl in 2020 and finished 11th in the country and lost the Sugar Bowl last year. And has not beaten a team with a winning conference record.

Which brings me to the point I've made 1000 times: All you have to do to win eight games every year (and to keep your job forever at a place like Mizzou) is to beat average and bad teams. You can go 8-4 every year ONLY by doing that. You can probably go 9-3 every year without ever beating a really good team.

And before anyone takes this as somehow being a shot at Drink, it isn't in any way. It's pointing out that most people probably think Kiffin has done a hell of a job at Ole Miss, and he has done pretty well. But doing a good job just means you beat the other teams in the middle. The path to eight wins isn't really as difficult as we probably tend to think it is.
