FOOTBALL Mitch Morse

Seeing Mitch Morse playing for the bills prompted me to look up his career earnings. I know contracts aren’t all guaranteed but if I’m reading this correctly he could potentially earn close to $50 million under current and past contracts. Even if the number isn’t quite that high, he has had an impressive career. Well done sir! Way to represent the ZOU!

Gomillion’s Role?

What’s your take?

I don’t hate his potential game, but I don’t think there will ever be a game where we need him shooting 3 straight trips down the court when we are struggling offensively like today. Those shots combined with his awful shot at Arky have me wondering what his role is supposed to be?

Don’t like him starting, but I like East and Gholston coming off of the bench.

I like having him around, but would prefer Coach put the clamps on his offense a bit.

Not to bring up a sore subject, but is this the spot we need Mosley in? Or maybe Gholston w/ Mosley off of the bench? Or maybe we saw the future today with Gholston getting almost double minutes?

We are proud to welcome Billiards on Broadway back for another year as our partner and the presenting sponsor of the juiciest dish on PowerMizzou. If you're looking for the inside scoop on Mizzou recruiting, The Chamber is the place. If you're looking for the best burger in Columbia, Billiards on Broadway is your go-to. A great place to watch a game, play some pool and pair a great local beer selection with one of Columbia's best meals. Local sports, Local beer, Local food--all under one roof at Billiards!

All football edition today. Not much to report on the hoops front other than James Brown, a top 2024 target, committing to North Carolina last week so he's off the board.

A window for transfer visits opened on Wednesday. Missouri had a visitor in town. That was Eastern Michigan OL Marcellus Johnson. Johnson has quite a few offers including Auburn, Colorado, Illinois, Wisconsin and Oklahoma State. He visited Auburn on Wednesday before spending Thursday in Columbia.

He told us of his Missouri visit "The coaches really stood out to me. I felt like I really got to know who they were and that was one of the main reasons for taking the official visit. Also, Columbia is a great town. That stood out too."

We're not sure what his plans are for other visits quite yet, but it's certainly possible he could get three more in if he wanted to.

The second visitor is LSU linebacker Demario Tolan, a 2022 four-star. He played sparingly in Baton Rouge this season and is looking to move on. He also visited Auburn. That was on Thursday. You can read about that trip here. He is in Columbia today. A Colorado visit is possible, but it is more likely he chooses between the Tigers and the Tigers. One thing to note is this quote about the Auburn visit: "I feel like they’re gonna be a perfect fit for me and I’m just really happy for this to be my first visit."

He said "they're gonna be a perfect fit" not "they would be." Maybe it means nothing. But I think Auburn set a standard Mizzou is going to have to pass. Blake Baker did recruit him at LSU, so that could help Mizzou obviously. Tolan is a native of East St. Louis and still has some family in the area, so look for Mizzou to push the angle of being close to familiar territory as well.

The last guy we have some intel on is former Arizona State defensive end Joe Moore. The St. Louis product committed to Washington on December 19. But it appears that has fallen through.

A source has told us Missouri is likely to be involved here. It was thought that Moore was going to take a visit to Mizzou in December, but that didn't happen. Not sure what other schools would be involved, but think Missouri has a pretty good shot here.

*We'll continue to monitor the portal and let you know if any other visits pop up this weekend. Eli Drinkwitz indicated on signing day that next weekend would be the big transfer activity, but we definitely know of two guys who were here and there may be more. Our impression is that Missouri is trying to keep the transfer activity VERY quiet this time around. Not sure exactly why, but information is really tough to come by unless it's coming from the player's side. But obviously, we'll do everything we can to keep you guys up to date on who will be in town.

Stay tuned.

FOOTBALL Horned Frogs

I know that it is very unlikely, but if TCU somehow pulls this off, where does that rank in terms of all time improbable seasons? I mean Gabe has not been wrong that usually you can pencil in the final teams after the final game is played the year before. I would venture to say that not many folks had TCU in this game. As an aside, how bad would the meltdown be in Athens?

FOOTBALL INTRODUCTORY PRESS CONFERENCE OF OC KIRBY MOORE

Drink starts by saying that after the bowl game, he said he had to take a step back and re-evaluate. He said last year they did a good job strengthening the defense last season, but he said the requirements as head coach didn't let him focus completely on the offense.

He said Kirby stuck out when he was doing research (obviously). He said they had a couple of zoom calls and an in-person interview on Jan. 1.

He said specifically that Kirby's attention to detail stuck out on the zoom calls. He said his urgency was also something.

Drink said this frees him up to recruit and raise money for NIL. With the portal and everything he said he has to re-recruit his players, fans and coaches every season.

Drink said that he wasn't adamant about making an OC hire until after the bowl game. He wanted to step back from the emotions of the season before he did anything.

Drink said he loves coaching QBs and designing plays -- he says he will miss that role, but that he needed to embrace his role to help the team. He said he was only going to hire someone he knew could do the job better than him.

He said Moore has been around a lot of titles as a coach and player.

Drink said he does a good job of throwing the football and pushing the ball down the field. He said he does a good job of setting up the offense through the pass game.

He said over the coming days and weeks they will basically figure out if Moore will adapt to their offense or if the team will adapt to what he does.

Moore says there are a lot of similarities in the system. He said he wants to add more tempo to the offense. His mindset is "they have to defend us." He said even if he likes a play he's not going to force it and will check his ego at the door and run what the personnel allows and is comfortable with.

Moore said he's always followed Drink from afar. He said they probably have a lot of mutuals.

Moore said the scheme has to fit the personnel and figure out what the players do well.

Moore said he feels Brady Cook finished the season well, but that he said he can still do a lot of things of learning and things like that while he is rehabbing from the torn labrum.

He called the WR room explosive.

Moore said there's pressure anywhere you go, so he doesn't feel like because we are entering year 4 of the Drink era that he would be under any more pressure than he already is.

He said he will stay busy until spring football (about 50ish days until it starts).

He said that in his first season as a playcaller and an OC he learned how to bounce back when things aren't going well.

Moore said he has to get a good lay of the land and that when it comes to recruiting is about being genuine and connecting with people.
