Steep hill to climb

For the football team to "succeed" next year, IMHO a lot needs to be done/accomplished:
1. HIre an OC that has an identity and can then execute that identity right away.
2. Fire all the offensive coaches except RB and WR. Will not happen, but needs to.
3. Get/pay/whatever you call it a SEC level QB. May need 2 QBs. Cook can be a backup, but if he leaves, need 2. Will Horn be ready as a backup?
4. Get/pay/whatever you call it 3 SEC level OL. Maybe just 2 if Polar (sp?) is the starting center next year.
5. Get/pay/whatever you call it an SEC tight end that can actually block and catch.
6. RBs- right now they are average at best. Should look at what is available.

That is a big lift.

Go Navy and Golden Girls

Back by popular demand: Hayden Buckley

After missing the cut in Napa, a nice bounce-back for Hayden at the Sanderson Farms this week, with a T-19. Was T-62 heading into the final round but shot up the leaderboard with a 7-under 64, the second-lowest score of the day (6 birdies, an eagle and a bogey) and two shots better than the next-best score. Malnati finished T-45

FOOTBALL Defense yesterday

Taking a deeper look at yesterdays possessions

in the first half we allowed 4 touchdowns on 6 possessions. The 2 we didn’t allow touchdowns were both turnover on downs. Tennessee could have taken a field goal on one for sure

second half we allowed touchdowns on 5 of our 8 possessions a field goal on another.

so really we allowed touchdowns on lesser percentages of our defensive possessions in the second half.

the biggest difference was after we scored to make it 24-28 we never moved the ball again which meant more time and opportunity for Tennessee to have the ball

8 possessions compared to 6

Doesn’t change any outcomes or opinions… I like many probably thought that the defense was much better in the first half and they really weren’t.

Discipline.

I agree we need a new OC and better play calling but let's get a little deeper. The team needs focus and discipline and where does that start for a football player? The weight room for those who remember Pat Ivey was given a lot of credit by the players during the Pinkel era for creating those traits. I'm not asking for Ivey to return but a focus by our 6-million-dollar man on what happens in the weight room and conditioning needs to be upgraded. Just a thought from another frustrated fan.

FOOTBALL Salaries of our Offensive coaches

I know the assumption is that the additional $1.1M for his staff will be spent on an OC. If you look at the 22 salaries, we have several offensive coaches that are paid in the top 25 for their position. So why do we need to pay more, shouldnt we be getting more for what we currently pay?

Curtis Luper $550k (6th highest paid Rb coach)
Marcus Johnson $550k (20th)
Erik Link $425k (18th)
Jacob Peeler $375k (right outside top 25)
Bush Hamdan $550k (right outside top 25)

Peeler's contract has $50k increase in 2023, he was paid more during his Ole Miss tenure so maybe he gets a bigger increase. If we moved on from Hamdan, you could spend $300k more and get a top 10 Qb coach/OC. We could move on from Luper and still have a top 25 coach at $200k less in salary.

NMSU Tickets

I am looking for 14 tickets to the game for my 30th birthday with my friends and family. 4 of my nieces and nephews wil be going to their first tigers game ages 10-14. We are all just looking to get into the stadium then find a large empty section together. It's gonna be cold, it's deer season, it's non con in November. Looking for any quantity of tickets for $10 or less. Thank you!

FOOTBALL DRINK'S POST-GAME PRESSER AFTER 66-24 LOSS TO NO. 5 TENNESSEE

Drink didn't have a statement before he opened it up to questions. Usually, he does.

Drink thinks the defense got two good 4th down stops. He thinks the FG before half was good. He said the TD after the half got it to 28-24 and then the wheels fell off. A lot of unforced errors. He said he has never seen so many false starts on WRs before.

He said Vols are really good but that the defense wasn't themselves. They missed tackles and assignments.

He said the best thing the team can do is look ahead for senior week.

He said he believes his guys will respond.

He said the game plan was to mix in man and zone coverage for Hyatt and McCoy in the slot. When Hyatt started rolling they put a CB on him and then on the play when Hyatt lined up as a TE for the TD it was supposed to be a safety.

He said after the first possession of the second half they couldn't really get anything going.

He thinks the offensive line was playing with rhythm until after the first drive of the second half.

Drink said he saved the timeout going into half because they knew they wanted to run the ball after the 40-yard run. But basically, the offense didn't get lined up after the second QB run. They were saving the timeout just in case they had a tackle for loss or sack or something.

On the last two passing TDs Drink said he thinks the secondary just got beat. Drink has no problem with Heupel and his team dropping 66 because the defense has to defend them and he has to coach them to do that.
