FOOTBALL QUICK 2ND QUARTER THOUGHTS AT TENNESSEE

Third Series for defense (continued): Tennessee is going for it on 4th and 4 again from its own 33-yard line. Hooker connects with Hyatt for 30 yards right between the safeties. UT RB Jaylen Wright from three yards out on the next play. MIZ 7, TENN 14

Fourth Series for the offense: Burden gets his first touch on a jet sweep for a gain of seven yards. Lovett prob should’ve got a penalty in his favor his helmet was ripped off on that screen. Pass to Tauskie Dove for a gain of 6 on third and seven. Here’s this dang Tyler Macon fake snap stuff. Man, if Mizzou doesn’t cut it out. Delay of game. This is a bad play in my opinion.

Fourth Series for the defense: Charleston snuffed out that screen for the first time. Mizzou was getting done pretty badly on those and Charleston blew it up. I think that’s a bad penalty on Tyrone Hopper. These big WRs are causing trouble McCoy with a gain of 17. Tyrone Hopper to the injury tent with an arm injury, but I couldn’t see which one.

McCoy 5 catches for 82 yards at this moment.

Manuel got beat off the snap and that’s a 20-yard TD by Princeton Fant, who caught it one-handed. MIZ 7, TENN 21

Fifth Series for the offense: Delay of game to start the drive. That’s tough. No excuse for that really. Luther Burden with a first down for 12 yards. Cook had Schrader wide open and he zipped it out of bounds. Eli Young with another 8-yard gain. 3 rushes for 21 yards so far. Peat comes in on the next play for a gain of five yards. Hoesrtkamp and Stephens together in on third down and blocked no one. Mizzou goes for it on 4th and 1 gets a TD. Tauskie with his first TD since 2020. Cook
Threw a 43-yard pass to Dove off of his back foot. 9 plays for 75 yards on that drive. I called it before this drive that Mizzou would go 9 plays and 70 yards, so I take 1% of the credit for that drive (joking). MIZ 14, TENN 21.

Fifth Series for the defense: Tennessee starts every possession with a screen it seems. Charleston got his ankles broken by Small on that 26-yard gain. Jaylen Wright with a gain of 14 after Hooker completed a pass for a gain of 12. Hooker with a 14-yard rushing TD. Carlies missed a tackle. Looks like (for the moment) the Mizzou offense is holding up the defense. MIZ 14, TENN 28

Sixth Series for the offense: Cook has played well to this point. Gets 8 yards on the QB Keeper. Cook with a nice pass on the run to Stephens who dropped it. Looks like Stephens hurt his shoulder on the play. Quick three and out.

Sixth Series for the defense: Hooker faking guys out on speed option for a gain of 28. Hyatt drops the slant pass, but the slants are open all day every day. He dropped another one on third down on another easy slant. Joe Charleston was 13 yards off the line of scrimmage. Holding on the 4th down play by Tennessee but LB Chad Bailey will be credited with the sack. So, Mizzou has held the Vols to 1 of 3 on 4th down.

Stephens is back out with the offense.

Seventh series for the offense: Cook with a 40-yard scramble. I mean he’s playing really well. The offensive line hasn’t played too badly either. So, instead of calling a timeout with 15 seconds left and taking an end zone shot they waste 10 seconds and spike it. Settle for the FG attempt. Mevis from 32 yards out is good. MIZ 17, TENN 28

FYI...

While you all are at home watching my boy Brady lead the squad to an upset victory down in Knoxville today, I'll be braving the cold. It's that time of year where we get out and collect canned goods and other perishable items to help some needy families have a great Thanksgiving. So if any of you guys are in the Lou and want to pull up and drop off any items, we'd greatly appreciate it. I appreciate all the contributions from last year, but we won't be accepting donations via any of the mobile payment services. We'll be posted up on the Schnucks parking lot at CrossKeys Shopping Center from 9-4...MIZ

FOOTBALL QUICK 1ST QUARTER THOUGHTS AT TENNESSEE

MIZ wins the toss and elects to receive in the first half.

Starters for offense
OL: Javon Foster, Xavier Delgado, Connor Tollison, Connor Wood, Armand Membou
TE: Tyler Stephens
WR: Luther Burden III, Tauuskie Dove, Dom Lovett
RB: Cody Schrader
QB: Brady Cook

Starters for defense
DL: Isaiah McGuire, Darius Robinson, Kristian Williams, DJ Coleman (over Trajan Jeffcoat)
LB: Ty'Ron "Lil Hop" Hopper, Chad Bailey
DB: Ennis Rakestraw, Martez Manuel, Jaylon Carlies, Joseph Charleston, Kris Abrams-Draine

First Series for offense: Positive yardage and the first third down is a 3rd and 2. Mizzou has to do this all game. On third down, they pass to Lovett and it's knocked down. Only 1 min and 26 secs taken off the clock.

First Series for defense: Tennessee moves really fast. Big gain on the first and on third down. Bru McCoy for a gain of 38. Ty’Ron Hopper missed a big sack and Hendon Hooker with a 17-yard scramble. A key matchup I had going into this game was bringing Hooker down. Mizzou with 12 players on the field, which is going to be a problem (Tennessee is too quick to be subbing defensive players out when UT doesn’t). UT RB Jabari Small with a 10-yard rushing TD. That drive was too easy for Tennessee. MIZ 0, TENN 7.

Second Series for offense: Eli Young with a gain of five on second down. Mizzou shouldn’t abandon the run. On third down Cook had Lovett open who had a streak up the seem. Scared money don’t make money. If he throws it out in front of Lovett it's at least a huge gain if not a TD. I also think if he steps into the throw he could’ve made it. It wasn’t out of Cook’s range to throw the ball Lovett had the step early.

Second Series for defense: Spread offense is carving this defense up. Hyatt was so wide open across the middle. The secondary is playing so far off the line because it's deeply afraid of the deep ball. Vols going for it tells me they’re not scared. But on 4th and 4, DJ Coleman gets the sack. Hendon had Hyatt open and this sack is more on him than the defense but Mizzou had to finish the play and it did. I think this is Coleman’s fifth straight game with a sack. Pass rush specialist.

Third Series for offense: I really love that first down play call. Cook up the middle for the team’s (first) 1st down. Then Cook makes another play with his leg for a gain of 20.
So back to back first downs. Eli Young has appeared to won this backup RB role. He gets seven yards on first down. Third and Banister for a gain of 14 on the slant and the first down. Eli Young doing good work so far today. An offsides penalty on Tenn on the Mevis-made FG. So, MIZ will get a new set of downs. Burden with a TD in the flat. 9 plays 68 yards on that drive. MIZ 7, TENN 7

Third Series for defense: The flats and underneath routes are a problem. Joe Charleston and Ennis Rakestraw had an INT but they collided and dropped it. McGuire hit Hooker to effect that throw. Darius Robinson with a bad roughing the passer penalty. Late hit. A three-yard gain turns into an 18-yard gain. Carlies gets away with a PI. So, Mizzou's defense playing much better than expected.

FOOTBALL The Strangest thing of Drink's Tenure so far is unabashed love for Barry's Guys

I have never seen a situation where a coach takes over and plays QB's from the previous coach for the first 3 years and maybe going on 4.

At least when they are the worst player on the offense as Bazelak and Cook have been

The first thing an offensive coach wants to do is going out and get his QB and get him on the field

I think this another red flag Drink has no idea what he is doing.

It's amazing we are in almost year 4 and Drink has done nothing to address Odom's poor recruiting of QB's

To top it off we have already given him an extension and have yet to see him bring in his QB

I don't believe I have ever seen this happen

Best part for me lol ast night

No Kobe no problem.
Neither Brown contributed anything meaningful, Degray didn’t play.

Gates knows talent, he knew what he was doing when he constructed a team in 2 months.

this is not the most talented team, that will improve next year.
Shaw is already contributing and Diarra ran well.

tomorriw will be an opportunity for Shaw and Diarra to further develop, Lindenwood will be easy.
Lots to like.
The chubby point guard is really really solid, East will be good just not yet

Everyone is healthy but EJ Ndoma-Ogar, Daniel Hawthorne, Hyrin White and Chance Luper.

All four QBs dressed out of course. Will you see more than one play? TBD.

I want to say five or six of Connor Wood's nine penalties came when he was at RG. He started I want to say the first three games of the season at RG.

FOOTBALL RECRUITING

***Missouri hosted a large number of prospects last weekend for the Kentucky game. For a complete update CLICK HERE. We'll focus more on the 2023 prospects that were on campus below.

Brandon Solis, OL, Lipscomb Academy (Tenn.)

- After taking unofficial trips to Missouri in the spring and for the Georgia game last month, Solis returned to Columbia for an official visit over the weekend. It seems Missouri is in strong contention with the three-star prospect when you consider his frequency on campus. During the summer, Solis took official visits to Boston College and Cincinnati. Mississippi State, TCU, Kansas State, and Florida State are other schools showing interest as well, so there could be more visits on the horizon for the 6-foot-8, 260-pound prospect.

Marvin Burks, S, Cardinal Ritter (Mo.)

- Since committing to Ole Miss, Burks has attended two Missouri home games. It was a tight race between the Tigers and Rebels for the four-star safety heading into his decision day back on October 21st. It's pretty clear, this one isn't over until the ink is dry.

Kendel Dolby, DB, Northeast Oklahoma A&M

- The JUCO product was impressed with his time on Missouri's campus over the weekend. Aside from watching the game, the 5-foot-11, 180-pound defensive back got to spent a lot of time with head coach Eli Drinkwitz and defensive backs coach Al Pogue. He was impressed with the Tigers' defensive effort and told us he plans to get back to Missouri "soon." Dolby said he's got some other visits in mind, but wouldn't disclose where. He just recently picked up new offers from both Oklahoma State and Oklahoma, so those schools could get some looks.

Triston Newson, LB, Northeast Mississippi C.C.

- Newsom was another JUCO talent in the 2023 class that was on campus over the weekend and picked up an offer from the Tigers in the process. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound prospect also has offers from Washington State, UTSA, Arkansas State, Marshall, Memphis, Colorado, and others. Missouri is his first SEC offer and that could hold some significant weight moving forward as he told us that the Tigers are "one of his top schools." We're still waiting to hear what the next steps are in his recruiting process.

Carson Morgan, ATH, Bentonville-West (Ark.)

- Morgan spent both Friday and Saturday at Missouri. On Friday, he got to tour the campus and facilities and hung around to watch the game on Saturday. For now, Missouri hasn't determined what position they are recruiting Morgan, could be RB/Slot or OLB/Safety, but it seems they are making a push since they got him on campus quickly after offering him. For now, it seems the Tigers could be in the driver's seat for a potential flip.

***Onto some other news involving 2023 targets

Jayden Hobson, OL, Hillcrest (Ala.)

- Hobson recently visited Missouri for the Vanderbilt game and things seemed to be trending towards the Tigers eventually landing the 6-foot-6, 296-pound prospect. However, Mississippi State extended a recent offer and Hobson was on their campus this past weekend which then led to his decommitment from Southern Miss. Not saying Missouri is out of the race here, but it seems that Miss. State has taken the lead.

Taderius Collins, DE, Northwood (La.)

- The four-star defensive end released his Top 6 schools on Sunday and Missouri is among his top group along with Mississippi State, Texas, Indiana, Auburn, and Baylor. Collins took summer officials to Indiana and Baylor, two of the schools among his top schools. Not sure if Missouri is a legit contender among this group, but Collins is taking his time with his recruiting process so we'll see what transpires.

Daniel Blood, WR, Destrahan (La.)

- A reminder that we do think Missouri will eventually land a commitment from Blood soon. The three-star prospect had been committed to Louisiana since the summer, but recently reopened his recruiting process after receiving an offer from Missouri in late September. Blood took an unofficial visit to Missouri during the summer and has been in frequent talks with wide receivers coach Jacob Peeler throughout his recruiting process. For more on Blood, CLICK HERE.

***Longtime Missouri defensive back commit Shamar McNeil visited Miami this past weekend for their game against Florida State. The three-star doesn't have an offer from the Hurricanes currently, but it's clear there is some interest there. At what level, we don't know. However, it is something to monitor and if Miami does offer that would give him an opportunity to play closer to home which would probably be very appealing.
