FOOTBALL Mizzou's supposed weak schedule...in ESPN's latest week #3 poll, now consists of six top 25 teams!

Make fun of the MSN link... make your arguments that some of these teams don't deserve their spots...but the fact is that Mizzou's schedule strength is definitely trending up.

It's also true that these rankings are pre-mature and will change a bunch as the season progresses...that's college football. Upsets happen every week...and some teams fade and others seemingly appear out of thin air.

Auburn 25th
Boston College 24th
Arkansas 23rd
Texas A&M 19th
Oklahoma 15th
Alabama 3rd

FOOTBALL CLOSING THOUGHTS FROM FAUROT FIELD

Postgame show, postgame interviews and my column on the front. Jarod's notebook coming shortly.

Only two thoughts:

1) Missouri has done everything it needed to do so far, led by a defense that looks to be quite a bit ahead of where I expected it to be

2) The season starts next Saturday at 11:45 am

Full week of coverage and buildup coming

FOOTBALL I'm A Little Worried

That this boner may rip my pants. Instead of worrying about stats lets look at the big picture here.

-> Miz 38 - Buffalo 0
-> OSU 39 - Ark 31 (after whooping that ass in the first half)
-> K State 34 - Tulane 27 (got really lucky on some calls)
-> Ill 23 - ku 17 (lol)
-> ou 16 - Houston 12 (Houston lost 27-7 to UNLV last week)
-> N Ill 16 - ND 14 (lol)

And the fighting Dan Lanning's are currently down 20-14 to Boise.

Yes, the deep passing game has had timing issues. But I see no reason to think that they won't iron it out considering everything else has clicked from minute 1 this year.

FOOTBALL WHAT ELI DRINKWITZ SAID AFTER THE 38-0 WIN OVER BUFFALO

Thanks crowd for the atmosphere. Fans were in the stands when they came out and the student section was awesome.

12 straight quarters without a touchdown for the defense.

Burden has been dealing with an illness all week.

Offensively, they couldn't sustain drives because of penalties.

Cam'Ron Johnson got injured on Wednesday and could've gone but they didn't want to risk it. He thought Mitch Walters did well.

A lot of depth on defense. They're consistent and always fresh.

Mookie Cooper has eclipsed 1,000 yards for his career. Cook passes Blaine Gabbert for the sixth-most passing yards in school history.

Thought Marcus Carroll and Nate Noel did a good job in the run game.

The pregame speech was taking advantage of opportunities. Basically, don't be like some of these other teams on upset alert.

Happy with Joe Moore and how he's responded.

Gave the game ball to Eddie Kelly. His mother passed away on Wednesday. She was here the week before. She had a medical emergency and passed away after practice. He was playing today and the defense was playing for him.

Defensive rankings

Mizzou is the only team in the country that has not allowed a point in two games

Mizzou is No. 1 in total defense at 127 yards per game. Ohio State is second at 138

Mizzou is No. 1 in pass defense at 41 yards per game. Among teams who have played two games, UAB is second at 73.5

Mizzou is No. 2 in yards per play at 2.49. Ohio State is first at 2.46

Mizzou is a terrible No. 35 in rushing defense at 86 yards per game

Questions to be answered still after 2 games

1). Too many penalties. That has to get cleaned up. Will definitely hurt against better competition

2). Cooks consistency. That was a really bad interception. Thrown where three players could have picked it. Has thrown some absolute dimes and should have had a long completion to Wease - but decision making consistency is critical

3). Burden. He ok? Physical? Mental? Not clear on his injury. Someone said he was pouting? Not clear. He’s a gamer and should be a huge part in big games. I also think we were feeding Theo to take some defensive game planning away from Luther later.

4). Kewan lacy fumbled again? That probably buys his redshirt for the year.

5). Kicking game/ long kicks were missed- but something to monitor.

FOOTBALL Biggest 8 takeaways after two weeks

1. The defense under Corey Batoon has jelled much faster than anticipated, maybe even more than expected. He has these guys flying around. This is the fastest Missouri defense 1-3 we've ever had, easily. The drop off from first to second team is minimal. But, do we have A GUY... that can step up when they need a stop? Rarely, can a team work so well that they don't need "a guy" but THIS might be that team.
2. Brady Cook is struggling to find a rhythm on deep throws, much as he did early last season. We heard all summer that Cook was working on his deep ball. For whatever reason, it isn't showing yet. He needs "a game," to get his confidence going again.
3. The offensive line is a work in progress. Lots of talent there, but it's not quite clicking right now.
4. LB3, where are ya?
5. The DB room is good, but can they be great?

The obvious...
6. We are stacked at WR
7. We are stacked at LB
8. The run game should be just fine.
