1. Mitch Walters gets the start for Cam’Ron Johnson at right guard.
During pregame warmups, I saw Johnson in full pads, but his helmet was off, and he wasn’t participating with the rest of the offensive line.
He was listed as a game-time decision and ultimately Mitch Walters started in his place. Walters has improved greatly from what Eli Drinkwitz has said all offseason.
2. Blake Craig makes a field goal from 51 yards out easily. Then misses from 49 yards away.
The first drive ended with a 51-yard field goal. I think it would’ve been good from at least 57. Probably 60.
His kicking power has never been an issue. It’s always been about whether he can be accurate. Well, he answered that question.
BUF 0, MIZ 3
On the kickoff, Craig hit the bottom crossbar and almost made the kickoff go through the uprights. However, on the next possession, Craig missed from 49 yards out. He would’ve made the kick from 60 yards. So, again, kicking power isn’t a problem.
3. Defensive tackle depth is as advertised.
Through two possessions, five defensive tackles have played. So, the depth Drinkwitz has been talking about is true. Last season, Mizzou primarily used four DTs. Now, it’s five or six.
4. Marvin Burks gets his first career interception.
Buffalo quarterback C.J. Ogbonna just threw a lollipop to Burks. It was a terrible throw because Burks was the only one near the pass.
He has had a couple of tackles in the opening quarter to go with the interception.
5. Joe Moore flashing.
I’ve seen defensive end Joe Moore make a couple of plays. He’s getting in the backfield and getting pressure on the quarterback. He’s made a nice quarterback hit and was close to forcing a fumble on the quarterback. If this is what the DE5 is doing then the Tigers are in good shape.
End of 1st: BUF 0, MIZ 0
