Bula Schmidt - Fresno State's Center

Fresno State's starting C is in the transfer portal. Has one year of eligibility thanks to his COVID year.

Schmidt has been the Bulldogs’ primary center for the past two seasons - He started all 27 games for the ‘Dogs over the past two years. He started all 14 games at center in this past 2022 season and started 10 of 13 at center in 2021 with three starts at guard. Schmidt was honored as a Second-Team All-Mountain West selection this season. He also started four games as a true freshman in 2019 at center.

BASKETBALL Predict the Score Arky

I know Drew does a Tiger Tipoff before Each game, but I have some free time at work and wanted to discuss a few things prior to that.

At the beginning of the year Arkansas had one of the most talent filled rosters in Men's basketball. They had length, they had wings, they had versatility. They WERE a legit Final Four contender. Then the season started. It has not been a bad season for the Razorbacks. They are 11-2 and those two losses are to a then ranked Creighton team playing at full strength (Ryan Kalkbrenner is now hurt) and to a 12-1 LSU team. Both very respectable losses. They lost to Creighton by 3 in Hawaii and by 3 to LSU in what was there worst offensive perfomance of probably the last two years. They shot 4-25 from behind the arc against LSU. If they would have shot 24% from behind the arc (two more makes) they win that game. So Arky is a good team. They are currently 16 in ESPN's power rankings.

This issue Arky has? DEPTH. Nick Smith, their highly prized freshman and projected Lottery pick is out indefinitely. Trevon Brazile, who all Mizzou fans know well, is out for the year. What this has meant for Arky is this, VERY EXTENDED minutes for the starters. Anthony Black, their 6'8" point guard, Ricky Council IV, their 6'6" wing that can get into the lane at will and Davonte Davis, their 6'4" wing all played FORTY MINUTES against LSU. Arkansas' bench played a TOTAL OF 12 minutes. What was a strength is now a weakness. They have NO depth.

What they do have is a talented starting 5. If you are playing man defense, Ricky Council IV is going to get to the rim on you. He goes down hill and when he gets going, HE GETS GOING. He is athletic, has a mid range game and attacks the rim and the paint area. He is a problem for ANY team. Anthony Black, is the type of guard Dennis Gates wants to recruit here. He handles the ball well. He is always calm. and at 6'8" he is a match up problem for most point guards. Jordan Walsh, is a 6'7" junkyard dog. He guards, he scrambles for loose balls, he does the dirty work and does not need the ball. Imagine a slightly taller Tre Gomillion (sans the occasional ballhandling responsibilities). Makhi MItchell is a 6'9" kid with a motor. Their starting 5 is GOOD.

But, that is all they have. They don't shoot from the outside. Because they are not deep, they did not rush tempo against LSU. They really can't. What they do well, is limit their turnovers, keep the game close and overwhelm you with drives to the basket if you are in man to man defense.

This is not as tough of a game as many fans will think. I see us playing a LOT of zone. I see Black exhausted by the end of this game because he has to guard Honor, or Hodge or Gholston or East who should all be fresh because we go 9 deep. I see Council frustrated because his driving lanes are clogged up and he has to settle for jumpers just out of his range. I also see a couple of players that have not been counted on playing having to play because Kobe gets someone in foul trouble.

Having said all that, because this game is in Bud Walton Arky can win. If they do, it will have to be a rock fight like our team had to play last year. If they do win it will be a game in the low 60s or 50s and we just shoot like shit.

If they Tigers shoot 33% or better from behind the arc, this game is a win.

Having said that, I predict the Tigers win 73-62.

M-I-Z!!!

@GabeD @drewking0222 What do you think?

Need some help with MBB @ TAMU 1/11 tickets…

I’m making the 3 hour trek from Dallas to College Station to watch our ranked Tigers. Does anyone have any contacts either with Mizzou or TAMU that could help me with tickets? I’d love to be able to sit down by Mizzou’s bench. Prices on secondary websites are outrageous given that TAMU’s arena won’t exactly be full, plus would love to bypass those dumbass site fees.

FOOTBALL Head Mizzou Coaches Barry Odom vs. Eli Drinkwitz, by-the-numbers...

I know there are may intangibe factors that make a true comparison impossible...but I was curious how they compare simply by-the numbers. Each of you can draw your own conclusions as there are so many variables that are tough to measure.

Odom inherited an NFL quarterback in Drew Lock who was not good as a true freshmen but none-the-less was a 5.8 four star that went on to earn first team all SEC honors. Odom also inherited 4-star players Chase Abbington, Nate Strong, and Marquise Doherty who never produced anything...but 4-star DL terry Beckner was a stud that he inherited along with Lock in Pinkel's last recruiting class which was ranked 27th.

Drinkwitz inherited two NFL running back's from Odom in 3-stars Larry Rountree and Tyler Badie. He also inherited a 5.7 3-star QB from Odom who won SEC Freshmen-of-the-year honors...but he transferred out after year two under Drinkwitz. From his first good recruiting class in 2021 He had five 4-star recruits...but three of those have already left the program (Dominic Lovett, Travion Ford, Tyler Macon), Remaining are Daylan Carnell who loooks like a budding star...and DE Ty Montgomery who has yet to do anything. Also gone is a prized 5.7 3-star DL Mikihi Wingo who transferred to LSU after earning All-SEC Freshmen honors.

Drinkwtz has recruited higher ranked classes for sure...but are most of those players as good as their rankings? Also it is alarming how many have left...but is that just a sign of the times? Will Drinkwitz's strength prove to be grabbing guys in the transfer portal? Another plus... the number of Defensive players who are returning for next year is very encouraging.

Mizzou as a Top 4 SEC Program

Mizzou fans remember Missouri basketball history and view it as what should be a Top 4 program in the SEC. How many years would Mizzou need to finish in the top 4 for other fans to view Mizzou as a Top 4 SEC Program?

This season is fun. But I want to see Gates build the program up to be consistently good, over the long term. Get back to what Missouri used to be.

NIL collective, Mizzou's status, what's happening

Mizzou's NIL collective and its efforts have been a daily topic of conversation here over the last few months. The collective, now called Every True Tiger Foundation, has been in a period of transition, but is nearing the end stages of that and just about to turn the page to the next chapter in Mizzou's efforts. And to be honest, it's not a next chapter, it's an entirely new book.

I had the chance to meet with Nick Garner, who's been brought in as the new CEO of the collective, which has really combined multiple smaller organizations into one "official" designated bucket for Mizzou's NIL efforts going forward. There will be some announcements in the coming days/weeks with specifics as to what that involves. What I can tell you at this point is that the new organization, as a 501(c)(3), will be focused on the tax benefit to all donors, while aligning Mizzou student-athletes with local charities to help promote their causes. I feel confident they have an understanding of the importance of the "average" fan, which is most of our membership here. The foundation of getting something like this off the ground is the individuals or businesses that can give six and seven figures. But what is going to keep it going is the everyday fan that wants to help, but can't write that type of a check. I know with a lot of things at Mizzou in the past that type of fan has felt ignored as if he doesn't matter. I don't think that will be the case going forward with the collective.

In the next few weeks (I don't want to put an exact timeline on it because I don't want to set a deadline over which I have no control), we're planning to be able to offer PowerMizzou members an exclusive way to donate to the collective that will come with benefits not offered to people who aren't members of the site. We are discussing specifics and goals for that and the minute I can share specifics, I promise I will do so. Our site is the target audience for this. It has been underutilized to this point. That is going to change.

I believe going forward there will be more transparency from the collective. They know that's important. You're not going to know what every kid is being paid specifically, but we hope to be able to share some information as far as where Mizzou stands in its efforts (it's more competitive in terms of the SEC and nationally than I believe is perceived right now) and where it is going. Nick and I have agreed to stay in regular communication and have regular meetings going forward. By being on this site, you guys will be offered the chance to make a direct difference in the NIL space and to receive some exclusive things not offered to the general Mizzou fan. Some time soon, I plan to do a podcast with Nick so you all can hear directly from him. I think you'll have a much better understanding and generally feel quite a bit better about Mizzou's standing and plans than most of you probably do today.

Stay tuned, we'll keep you updated as soon as we can and in as detailed a manner as we can.

This is pretty cool

Thoughts and prayers obviously with him and his family.

Damar Hamlin has a go fund me to raise money for toys in the neighborhood he grew up in. He was hoping to raise $2500.

They have raised over 3 million

Some things do a bit to restore faith in humanity. Lots of bad witnesses last night. This is just a little bit of good.
