Even more reasons why that shot was so big

Putting aside Gholston heave for a W (if he's in the parking lot he can shoot from now on), other reasons that shot was huge:

1) Quad 1 road wins are nice. Mizzou has one now. This team, barring losing out, moved from should be in to near lock with this win. It can lock it up on the plains this week.
2) Mizzou is now tied for 4th in the conference. #5 is Auburn, so the mid-week tilt is massive for a double bye. Winning this game all but guarantees a double bye barring a complete disaster against the remaining schedule, and could potentially take Mizzou up to a 7 or 6 seed for the dance. This game move from nice to have to absolutely huge to accomplish stretch goals in year one with Gates.
3) Tennessee still plays Bama, @UK, @A&M, Arky, and @Auburn. There are likely at least two, maybe three losses sitting there. Tennessee is still a game ahead of Mizzou, but Mizzou now has a tiebreaker against a by far more favorable schedule. Mizzou will likely tie or finish ahead of Tennessee with this win, and has some breathing room against the other teams in the middle of the pack for a double bye. Mizzou likely cannot catch A&M, even if Mizzou wins in Columbia later this month. A&M would remain up three with six to play with a win against LSU tonight. Thus, we want A&M to win every game except for the Mizzou game in Columbia.

That shot basically changed the course of this season from happy to get in to the dance and fans are very happy with the year 1 results to a possible double bye and realistic shot at the second weekend in the dance and fans get everything they dreamed of and a lot more, all in the span of 4 seconds.

BASKETBALL The Tide Has Changed

How. Many. Times.

How many time have we sat here lamenting a blown opportunity? Lamenting getting ref balled? Lamenting a crazy sequence going against Mizzou?

Tonight feels monumental. Yes, it’s one game. But I can’t remember a time seeing the Tigers get punched in the chin that hard and respond. They were ref balled. They had to deal with a kid that couldn’t miss from three in the second half. They had to play a damned walk-on down the stretch due to foul trouble.

Didn’t matter. Stuck with it. Found a way. Damned if that wasn’t one of the most cathartic wins I’ve ever experienced as a Mizzou fan. Everything pointed to that game feeling like yet another kick in the nuts. But something about this regime feels different.

It may not come to fruition this year. Or next. But I think we are in for a special ride. Jump on board. There will be a bump or two along the way. But I think we all will like where this train is stopping.
