FOOTBALL RECRUITING Latest on Marvin Burks

As of last night the feeling was he was going to Ole Miss.

As of this morning the feeling was he was going to Mizzou.

As of this afternoon there are people in a position to know who believe he is going both places.

I don’t think it’s out of the question the kid is committed to multiple schools. We aren’t really going to know until he announces whatever he is going to announce tonight (we don’t have an exact time but are thinking 630-7). If it’s Mizzou we are prepared and will have content. If it’s Ole Miss we will move on. No matter who it is I’m not at all sure this is over tonight.

So stay tuned. And no we aren’t gonna spend four hours in the car to go to the announcement with absolutely no idea what is going to happen.

Mathew Dowd, Finally a spokesman for the OT libs

For the longest time some here have claimed that 1/6 was all in the political world that mattered. They found the long running saga put on as a political stunt lasting 18 months by House Dems, compelling. Meanwhile sane people had moved on from the riot and Trump to things like a terrible economy where greeniacs with fossil fuel hatred and a party that thought though the pandemic was over, they could continue to spend trillions on their giveaways. The result families are spending 450 bucks a month more for the same thing they got last year. Retirement savings has dropped 25% and falling.

So, Mathew Dowd who tried to run for office last year and decided he was too white after about 2 weeks of nobody supporting him. After being a republican campaign guru, he decided George W Bush was evil and became a liberal democrat. He had a gig on ABC for a while and now just shows up and says something awful about Republicans in general on MSNBC.

Now he claims campaigning against the democrat economic mess makes them Nazis.

COVID Update 2022 edition

Since Joe Biden keeps allowing people to die of Covid, way more than he said he would allow, I think it is time to look at what is going to happen this fall.

First off, the CDC adding the Child Vax to schedule and basically recommending it will be interesting to watch. I'm curious to see if it becomes a political issue leading into midterms. This should be a discussion point for anyone running for school boards.

Now lets look at the winter leaders, those countries that let us know what to expect. The US doesn't really have good reporting any more. Most take chinese made take at home tests.

France and Germany are having issues. Germany specifically has warned of significant increases in hospitalizations

Germany's death numbers are higher than they were at this time in 2021. I spoke to some colleges in Germany this morning, they think there would be mass outrage if Germany tries to impose any rules again. I bet we see something.

France is similar to Germany ahead of 2021 numbers. Japan actually had huge death spikes the past couple months, significantly worse than at any other time during the pandemic.

How do you solve/crush energy demand? How do you slow Covid transmission? Lock every one down. Kill two birds with one stone.

Anyone see what happened this morning with Markets?

SO the Japanese Yen was tumbling. The Swiss National Bank Swaps were exploding. The USD was up 1% around 8 am central.

THEN, WSJ Reporter tweeted that Fed was thinking about lowering future interest rate hikes and Japanese govt intervened to protect currency and BOOM, market exploded, USD down 1%.

Great for those who were set up for that. Gotta be honest, my GLD and GDX puts looked beautiful at 8 am, ugly at 9.

But on the other hand, these are not things that occur in great markets. Sorry Japan, the sun is setting on your Yen (which is worth about the same as Argentine Peso. They have fallen versus USD about the same amount since March. The peso might be a little worse, but the Yen is catching up.

FOOTBALL The blueprint for hope

the bye week has rejuvenated some optimism on this board with a lot of predictions of a 4-2 finish and even a few of 5-1. This has happened in recent Mizzou history. For those wanting hope, look to 2017

Started 1-5 with losses to South Carolina, Purdue, Kentucky, Georgia and Auburn. Only the UK game was even close. The only win was SEMO.

This year is 2-4 with losses to Kansas State, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, wins over LA Tech and Abilene Christian.

The starts are pretty similar with relatively tough schedules (I would argue the 2017 schedule is better largely because I don't think Florida or Auburn is very good this year).

The 2017 team then reeled off six straight wins to end the regular season. The wins were Idaho, UCONN, Florida, Tennessee, Vandy and Arkansas. The best of those teams was 5-7 Vandy. The turnaround was largely schedule driven, but you can only play who you play.

This year's remaining schedule has a combined record so far of 23-16. If you take out Tennessee, the rest of Mizzou's opponents are a game over .500 so far. By the time the season is over, there's a decent chance the non-Tennessee opponents have a cumulative record below .500.

I think this 2022 schedule is better than the one Mizzou faced in 2017. Not by leaps and bounds, but by a bit. Mizzou used that 2017 finish to springboard to an 8-4 regular season in 2018 and people were optimistic. That would be the goal here. Find a way to get four more to go 6-6, hopefully win a bowl game to finish 7-6 (same record as the 2017 team) and then carry some momentum to next year (then avoid a collapse in 2024 which ends up getting the coach fired, which is what happened after the last eight win season).

FOOTBALL RECRUITING

*No apologies necessary this week. Let's not bury the lede. The back and forth, up and down, mostly silent recruitment of Marvin Burks will come to an end some time today. Burks has not released a commitment time. We do not even know if he is doing an actual announcement. We have heard that he will likely make his commitment known prior to kickoff of Ritter's final home game of the season against SLUH tonight. That game starts at 6 p.m.

Most of the buzz lately has favored Ole Miss. In the last couple of days, we've gotten the sense that might not be accurate. We actually like Missouri's chances here. We're not to the point of putting in a future cast because we've been told at times that Burks may actually have committed to more than one school along the way. But most of what you're going to see today is assuming he's going to Ole Miss. We think there's a good chance Mizzou gets good news tonight. Again, this thing has gone back and forth plenty of times and he isn't going public for about eight or nine more hours so where it ends up may not even be where it sits right now, which is why we're not going on record with an official prediction. But we think you guys are going to want to be paying attention this evening.

If indeed the Tigers get that news, Burks would be the 13th overall commitment and the fifth Rivals four-star. That's pretty good. Prior to Eli Drinkwitz coming to Missouri, the Tigers have had only two recruiting classes (2010 and 2015) with more than five four-star or higher prospects. The 2004 class had five. So while this class may not make it into the top 20 like the last two did, it's still one of the stronger recruiting classes Missouri has ever had at the top.

Again, we'll be on top of whatever happens tonight.

*We are told Chesterfield DE Alex Bray will be in town this weekend. Bray has a Power Five offer from Illinois. He doesn't currently have one from the Tigers. It will be worth watching to see if he gets one this weekend. Tough to see Mizzou getting him as a preferred walk-on when he already has an Illinois offer, but we'll monitor.

*2024 Rock Bridge QB Sam Kaiser will be at the game as well. He's a kid to keep on the radar for the 24 class who will probably start to gain regional attention.

*Here are others we expect to be at the game. This is not a comprehensive list. Missouri is going to bring in a bunch of guys in the 2023, 24 and 25 classes. We'll check out the sidelines for a more extensive list tomorrow, but these are those we expect as of now:

Commitments

Blake Craig
Nick DeLoach
Josh Manning
Logan Reichert
Brayshawn Littlejohn

2023 prospects

Jayden Hobson -- current Southern Miss commit
Serigne Tounkara

2024 prospects

Grant Brix
Caleb Pyfrom
Jeremiah McClellan (one of the top targets in the class)
Jaden Reddell (listed as a WR, probably a TE in college)
Keelan Smith
Sam Kaiser
Alessio Milivojevic
Chase Schutty
Jacob Simpson
Gavin Hoffman -- 2024 WR from Blue Valley NW, no profile yet

*We would certainly expect a good number of offers to go out in the next 2-3 days

***Rivals250 prospect Logan Reichert is Missouri's highest-rated commitment in this year's class, but the Tigers are looking for more offensive lineman to join him. Here is the latest on the top OL targets and new faces on Missouri's board.

NOTABLE OL TARGETS:

Brandon Solis, Lipscomb Academy (Tenn.) - The 6-foot-8 prospect has already visited Missouri twice, once in the spring and recently for the Georgia game. The Tigers are well-positioned for the three-star talent as his recruiting process will likely play out until December or even February. Solis recently mentioned that along with Missouri - Kansas State, Mississippi State, Florida State, and TCU are the schools that are sticking out to him right now. A visit to Kansas State will likely happen sometime this season, otherwise, he's focused on finishing out his senior season with his high school team.

Keyshawn Blackstock, Coffeyville C.C. (Tex.) - Missouri was one of the first power five schools to extend an offer to the JUCO prospect back in early September. Blackstock has emerged as one of the top JUCO prospects in the country and schools like Oklahoma State, Mississippi State, Penn State, TCU, Oregon, Tennessee, Florida, Nebraska and others have also extended offers.

Caleb Lomu, Highland (Ariz.) - Lomu has already taken summer officials with Utah, Cal, and Arizona but more offers have kept piling up throughout the late summer and into the fall. Michigan, Ole Miss, Oregon, Florida, Auburn, and Tennessee to name a few.

Mason Goldman, Gretna (Neb.) - Kansas was the first power five program to offer Goldman back in late July, but his stellar senior film has seen the likes of Arizona State, Missouri, Kansas State, and Nebraska now entering the mix. Missouri assistant Erik Link has headed up the recruiting efforts with Goldman and three-star expressed interest in visiting the Tigers soon. The Nebraska offer is one to watch and it will be interesting to see if the 6-foot-6, 260-pound prospect will continue to wait things out.

Devin Vass, Lakeland (Fla.) - Vanderbilt was the first power five program to extend an offer to Vass in September, the Commodores got him on campus for an official visit recently and appear to be the frontrunner. However, other programs have jumped in the mix for the Lakeland (Fla.) product, including Missouri, Maryland, Memphis, and Kansas State. Florida is also showing interest, so if the Gators offer that could be a game-changer.

John Bragg, LBJ (Austin, Tex.) - Missouri is the first offer for Bragg, who is another senior that is popping up on the radars of power five programs. Kansas is also showing interest, but right now it appears the Tigers have the upper-hand on the 6-foot-5, 270 prospect. Bragg told PowerMizzou.com that he'll be in Columbia this weekend for Missouri's game against Vanderbilt. Louisiana also recently offered.

Jayden Hobson, Hillcrest (Ala.) - Has been committed to Southern Miss since the summer. Has other notable offers from West Virginia, South Florida, Memphis, and Liberty - those are all offers he held either before or just after he committed to Southern Miss.

IT HAS BEGUN: Colorado sends 30,000 voter registration cards to non-citizens

"accidentally"

Sure.

Don't worry, though, these same people will assure you that none of these non-citizens will be allowed to vote. I believe it.
